Choun is a hidden gem in Ontario. We stumbled upon this family owned restaurant in Cambridge that specializes in Southeast Asia cuisine, namely Laotian takes on neighbouring regional cuisines like Thai, Korean, and Japanese dishes.The menu is diverse but shows intentionality. The Asian barbecue ribs were sweet-savoury and served with a tasty kimchi cabbage coleslaw was tasty. My ramen-loving nephew devoured his miso ramen. Portion sizes are generous.The standout dish for us was definitely the laksa. It was creamy and spicy and flavourful. Unlike other laksas I've tried it wasn't watery like a soup but was more of a richer texture with a tolerable spice level, plenty of tender chicken pieces and lots of vegetables in the broth.Sara was so sweet and brought my nephew to meet the chef and kitchen crew. She also brought us complimentary Asian style churros. She offered great insight into the menu as well as her brother Bobby's journey into this business and his intention of highlighting their Laotian heritage.The space is cozy. Decor and plating choices are on point. I was describing to a friend how at one point, a random Christmas song came on the playlist (it was March but snowing outside). With the warmth of family around me, my belly satiated from the delicious meal, it did feel a lot like Christmas in that one moment.Truly amazing food (I still dream about that laksa) and awesome staff made for a very memorable dining experience that we look forward to repeating the next time we are in the Cambridge area.

My new favourite in town! I’ve been a Ben Than regular but I have to split my time now. This place is amazing we had the Asian Shrimp Po Boy, vegetarian Laksa Soup, and the Pad Thai. All dishes were amazing, we couldn’t stop eating and we were so full, but the flavour was just too good to stop. The service was excellent and the place is a cozy little cave with the original stone walls and lots of natural light set on the Grand River in Hespeler. Definitely worth the trip to Hespeler‼️

We come here whenever we are in the area. The food is tasty and fresh. It seems they changed the way they cut the size of the veggies and herbs in the vermicelli bowl which is fine, just a bit harder to mix the bowl up a bit to enjoy everything together.Updated to remove my comment on our recent visit, as they have seen and addressed it.

Very cool spot. Inside or outside this is a very interesting location. Close to park by the mill pond and river. Cool character building tucked away.Food and service were fantastic. Server was very friendly.We'll be back for sure.

I just hosted a first birthday for 30 guests at Choun and couldn’t have been happier. Sarahlynn makes planning so easy and the food was incredible. It was a really lovely afternoon :)Great value for their high level service and attention to detail. I’d be very happy to host another event at Choun.

This food at Choun Kitchen is so delicious! The ingredients were super fresh and the portions were a great size. They had a lot of variety on the menu and different spice options for certain meals. The actual restaurant itself was super cute and the staff very friendly! I would definitely recommend this place.

Inside was clean enough.Didn’t use the washroom so can’t tell what it is like. I ordered spring-rolls and chicken pad thai. It was made fresh but didn’t take a long time to be served! Would like to go back when I’m in town. The location is a bit tucked in so you need to look for the sign on the main street.

Enjoyed an incredible Miso Ramen dish tonight. Great food, fantastic service. I highly reccomend Choun Kitchen. Asian fusion at its best. Had a great conversation with Sarah. Can not wait to eat there again.

Some honest review here. I was excited to come here after seeing good reviews. We had 2 dishes here and as the server walked towards us, she wiped and touched the food which I managed to eat. However, the food was terrible, especially all the meat including the meat in the dumplings seemed like it was just sit in the freezer for awhile and put in the broth. The broth is fine but I would never go back.
