We came to Homeward Bound for help with our two corgis, who were fighting constantly. The fights were very bad, snarling, snapping and our younger dog finally got gauged with the other's tooth that required a trip to the vet. It was upsetting and stressful, not only to witness these fights between our two beloved dogs, but also trying to break it up while keeping ourselves and them safe. My husband and I both had gotten bitten breaking up these fights and we were at our wits end, worried we would have re-home one of them if the fights did not stop.So we reached out to Homeward Bound for help. From the very start, it was a positive experience. My husband and I had a two hour virtual consultation with Emily and Jolene and it was incredibly eye opening. They gave us real tools that we were able to start utilizing right away with our dogs; positive activities to start engaging their minds and allowing them to use their energy in a more productive/calm way (as I write this, they are enjoying dinner filled Toppl toys-one of Emily and Jolene's many fantastic suggestions! :D) They not only provided positive activity suggestions, they also explained the behavioral reasons behind the fighting so it gave us a more complete picture of what was going on and therefore, more insight on how to handle the issues going forward.Following the consultation, Emily promptly sent us a video recording of the session and a detailed assessment along with additional information on enrichment tools and training options.Our dogs haven't fought now for several weeks and the stress in our house has gone down significantly!!! While we didn't feel the need to continue with a full training program at this time, if this was the experience before training even began, I can only imagine how phenomenal their full program is! I can’t say enough wonderful things about Emily. Our dog, Bruce, suffers from severe separation anxiety. We started working with Emily about a year ago and we are finally to the point where we can leave our dog home alone for hours at a time. Although it may not seem like a lot, this is huge for us. Emily was able to help us with desensitizing Bruce, helped us find the right medication, and was a great support through this entire adventure. Thank you for all of your efforts and knowledge. Emily went above and beyond and we will be forever grateful!

Emily was amazing! She provided excellent training and feedback after each session. We learned a lot, and made a lot of progress with our dog (he is a 2 1/2 year old rescue). We feel more confident in getting him to do what we want, and he seems more comfortable. It's a win-win, and we couldn't be happier. We highly recommend Homeward Bound and Emily!

We highly recommend Emily! She is a very knowledgeable and caring individual. She worked with our sheltie, Shadow, for three weeks -- training both Shadow and us. She developed a training plan to meet our needs, worked with our schedules, helped us understand Shadow's behaviors, what her behaviors/actions meant, and how to train her properly. We couldn't be more pleased with the progress made. We look forward to working with her in the future and will absolutely use her for care of Shadow when we are away -- she is someone you can trust with your pets!

Our dog Bubbles completed puppy passport training with Emily and her team. She is knowledgeable in animal behavior. She teaches you how to maintain your trained your dog. She offers wonderful care for your pet. I highly recommend Homeward Bound.

We had the pleasure of meeting Emily recently and knew immediately she was trustworthy and caring. We require in-home care for our dog as she is nearly 14 years old and completely blind. While we were away Emily was kind enough to keep in touch with us and send pictures. In August of 2020 we brought home a Dalmatian puppy and named him Andy. He is our fifth Dalmatian, however three were rescues; we haven’t had a puppy since 1992. Our last Dalmatian was a certified Therapy and Fire Safety Dog, and we hope to train Andy to do the same or something similar; thus our search began for an accomplished trainer.During our internet searches we found Homeward Bound and were impressed by Emily’s experience and favorable reviews. We scheduled an initial interview to determine if she was a good fit for us and whether or not she would accept Andy. To say that we were impressed with that interview was an understatement. Emily was professional, confident and obviously very knowledgeable; she could readily identify Andy’s body language and in a very short time she had already accomplished Andy’s positive response to her command. We then enrolled Andy in her “Pups on Parade Day Training Package”.We have since completed that training and it was a great experience. Emily changed the schedule a bit for us since we are more than 200 miles away and needed to meet at our daughter’s home in Portage. She trained us as well as Andy with great patience and provided us with training reports at the end of each day (often including videos and additional training material) so that we had something to refer to as we continued training exercises at home. Emily also welcomed our emails with questions or frustrations that we weren’t sure how to resolve, and she never failed to respond generally within minutes or at least the same day. We so appreciated the ability to have her coach us from a distance!We are looking forward to additional training with Emily in the Spring since we have no doubt that she can help us accomplish Andy’s full potential!

We cannot say enough good things about Emily. We had a challenging start with a puppy that had great anxiety and fear. With Emily we made the heartbreaking decision to return the puppy to the breeder. Emily helped us find another puppy that is a great fit with our family of three children. We just completed the three week day training package and are sad it has come to a conclusion. Emily is a wonderful person who is great with people and animals, even in challenging times when things are not going as expected. She is organized, thoughtful in her approach with people and animals, and cares greatly about all aspects of her work. We will continue to use Emily's services as needs appear.
