Hungry Monkey

WOW one of the most authentic Taiwanese food I've tried in a long time. When I had my first bite of the popcorn fried chicken I had a gush of memories of my time in the Taiwanese night markets. Portions are a bit smaller than expected but the price was cheap. The taste was fantastic! I am craving and excited to go back and try other items as I write this review!

Taiwanese proved it’s a real traditional Taiwanese restaurant in Calgary, you should try deep fried tofu. Crispy chicken. So goooood!!

Feels like being invited into the family kitchen. I have eaten here on several occasions while cruising the farmers market and each time the people are always so friendly, have their kids working with them, and the food is always fantastic. If you aren’t in the mood for a bite their smoothies and milk teas are great, they are a great treat any time of the year!

Delicious! The fried crispy chicken bites were perfectly battered and balanced with spices. The Taiwanese beef noodle soup, omg! Tender beef, freshly-made homemade noodles, and a flavorful broth.

We came here because of an Instagram post as I’m always on the look out for amazing hole-in-the-wall shops with authentic yummy food. We tried the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, spring rolls, and popcorn chicken. We had take out and took it home. It was too crowded there to eat comfortably. The soup noodle dish is was solid. The noodles chewy and not doughy. The soup flavorful and tasty. It’s was a solid 4/5. I’ve had better but not locally. What stood out for me was the popcorn chicken. YUM! Perfectly battered and not too thick. Chewy and crispy on the outside and tender juicy chicken on the inside. Not dry. Just right. And the spice they added was perfect for my taste. The chicken didn’t make the car ride home. My husband barely got a few pieces. Lol. Will be back for more popcorn chicken!

We absolutely love the Hungry Monkey. If Taiwanese night market street food is your thing, this is the spot to be at. This family works so hard at providing the best food and services. I respect their dedication to the family business. The salt and pepper popcorn chicken, the five spiced beef noodle soup and fries tofu with pickled cabbage are our must-haves each time. Our kids can't get enough of the beef noodle soup and the popcorn chicken. Texture and flavours are just perfect with a slight hint of herbs. My personal favourite is the tofu with pickled cabbage and chilli paste on the side. That is addictive! Their bubble tea and smoothies are great as well.

Always look forward to the weekends to have a bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle soup.It’s so comforting like a warm hug for your soul anytime of the year (but especially in winter). The Shin beef is very premium and tender, and the broth is rich and tasty. Very true Taiwanese flavours, and the quality is not affected by having have a take-away order.

We go to the Crossroads market maybe twice per month, generally after visiting the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Hungry Monkey is a must-stop for us now as their smoothies are fresh and delicious!Haven't really tried their food yet, but these drinks are our favorites... I had the chocolate-banana and my daughter had the mango and they were both super good!It's also nice to see a hard working family here (kids included) , so we're always happy to buy from them... Maybe next time we'll try one of their food items, but surely we'll come back for more smoothie deliciousness!

We come here every week and the food is delicious and its very clean here. We especially like the satay chilli, kimchi in the tofu, and there’s always lots of stuffing in the subs. Bubble tea is really yummy and they always give out lots of pearls. Price is very reasonable and staff are very friendly and helpful.
