The first time I went here it was ok, but the follow up, makes me want to say, run. If you have anything more than a newborn, this is not the place to get help breastfeeding. My problem was(/still is) that my baby, who was 3 months old at the time, went through some kind of breast refusal where she would scream at the boob, not even get to the latching phase, and would do this regardless of how hungry she was, sometimes it had been many hours and she was really hungry but seemed incapable of drinking from the breast. I was hoping that they would have seen this before and know what it was/what to do.The first visit, the LC doctor tried first for me to get into different feeding positions with baby, but unless she had just woken up and was super drowsy she wouldnt eat at the boob, the position was not the problem. I walked out of there with a prescription for zantac that was 2 mL twice a day. Now, this was the maximum dose, she was already on a 0.3 mL dose. I didnt feel comfortable giving her that much, and even looking online, I couldnt find anyone say they gave a 14 lb baby THAT much Zantac. My family doctor later said that was not a good idea...Second visit, I came back to follow up as they suggested becuase she hadnt returned to the breast even after a raise in Zantac (I gave her what I was comfortable at 1 mL)Now, the consultant I got this time around I feel should be fired. I am appalled that someone in a trusted position would give such a dangerous suggestion, and that is - Oh, start her on solids. A 16 week old!! For any mom who doesnt know, that is TOO YOUNG. Their kidneys are not developed enough at 16 weeks to be on solids. Even our Alberta Gov handbooks say 17 weeks minimum, and that's if baby isnt gaining or something. My baby regardless of eating trouble had gained 5 oz that week. The other thing she told me, dont give baby a bottle when she screams at the boob becasue thats 'rewarding bad behavior' EXCUSE ME? If an infant doesnt eat at the boob it means they cant. starving them into is not going to work, and babies that young cannot have 'BAD BEHAVIOURIf I were in a demographic of people who frequent The Alex I might not have known how terrible her advice to me was. This woman is basing things off her old school thoughts (she was older) and not the modern health and safety guidelines. She should be fired and not allowed near vulnerable moms and their babies. There arent many places in the city for breastfeeding help

I am so very thankful for this group of people. If it wasn't for them I would not be breastfeeding my infant! My family doc didn't see the important to me to breastfeed but these guys did. They were so much help.

Free parking and staff inside directed us where to head. Reception had me re-fill out everything we had already submitted online, but we were quick into a room, weighed in and got comfy in their nice chair with pillows. The doctor was so friendly we were put at ease and managed a better feed than we can get at home (of course), got loads of help and advice and left confident we could do this. And we have!
