Super passionate team over at LEPS Langley. I hope they continue doing what they've set out to do because with such a motivated team, they are bound to make a huge difference.

I enjoyed a month-long work experience with LEPS back in 2012 while at Kwantlen. I was amazed at the genuine passion everyone there had for protecting the environment & educating the public about issues affecting Metro Vancouver (invasive species, water pollution, aquatic diseases, etc.)

I have been volunteering for the Langley Environmental Partners Society (LEPS) for a while and, for my overall experience, had a fun and educational time with them.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------LEPS is an organization that helps preserve our natural environment and to educate the public about our local surroundings and what threats occur to them. With that, there are many opportunities for anyone to volunteer. Volunteer opportunities range from assisting staff with educating children and working for Water Weeks (a warmer season job that spread the word on how to conserve water and why it matters), to helping with picking fruits for food banks, removing invasive plants, planting the native ones, and testing local streams' health. If you love interacting with people, or you are more on the quiet side, there is something for you to take part in.They also host events that promote awareness about our local environment while at the same time have fun.The staff are very nice and supportive and they make you feel part of the team. You could also learn what you might not have been taught at school. For example, the staff taught me about invasive plants that I did not realize all my life living in Canada. The Himalayan Blackberries are the ones we make a big effort to pull out because they are super abundant, and when I walked from my high school toward home years ago I didn't realize what I was walking past were highly invasive plants that is taking over our local ecosystem. Why did I not learn this in school? I now have planted a Western Sword Fern (a native and beautiful fern) on my property because, for me, I feel like it is the right thing to do.LEPS also received many awards for their outstanding effort to preserve our home while giving the community an opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering. If you like helping our environment in regards to raising awareness, taking out nasty plants and putting the native ones in, gain experience with plant management, or just want to enjoy working with nature and the outdoors, I highly suggest looking into LEPS to see what opportunities await you.You can sign up for their monthly e-newsletter for any events and opportunities that interests you.
