Please do not enroll if you have difficulty registering courses on your own or need assistance dropping courses, or would like to request refunds (because you can't make up your mind in time to avoid paying late fees); do not enroll if you need someone to tell you to read your books or do your tests. This is not a typical university, it's really intended for disciplined individuals (either professionals or young but ambitious students). It's painful to read these reviews" of how one is unhappy because university has a FEE when you drop a course (which university doesn't by the way)? Someone literally left a 1 star because nobody checked up on her to see how she's doing (is that even a thing??). AU is an amazing university. Get the material

I'm a proud 2023 MN graduate and I recommend you start your journey today at Athabasca University! Consider this your sign to apply :) The academic staff and programing are geared towards people who want a high-caliber, well organized, distance delivered education. They know what they're doing when it comes to technology, flexibility with time, and managing students from coast to coast to coast. I will never regret my decision to start my MN and neither will you regret your decision to study with AU. Good luck!

Avoid this school at all cost. The tutors will deliberately fail you so you can retake the courses and so they can take more money from you. I hate this school and It’s absolutely pathetic enough that you get to learn everything on your own with no classroom time, but failing students for each attempt they make is absolutely pathetic. They want you to do everything according to their own liking and if you even make grammatical errors they will fail you completely. They are all in for the money, absolutely disgusting!

I completed my MBA at AU and I couldn’t be happier that I did. The courses were flexible, allowing me to complete work at a time that aligned with my other life commitments. Course content was interesting and challenging. A great overall experience.

If you have a learning disability.. 10/10 would not recommend. It feels like they only have one staff member in that department. Takes weeks to get the accommodations needed for your courses, sending emails you can expect a reply in 1-2 months or never, don't bother calling the main accessibility department line, no one answers.Visual learners.. There's nothing visual aside from textbooks. Be prepared to search YouTube many times a day for any visual aids. Now if you don't have a learning disability of any type.. I can most definitely see this as being a really good school. You literally just read the books online and take tests. This worked out very well for me when I took a computer course because A) I already had knowledge and B) tons of YouTube videos to give a quick visual if needed.I may just be a student who fell through the cracks... Buuut seems it's not that way considering my partner has had all of these same issues and more (including rude administrative people when she's just trying to understand how to navigate around with everything)So, learning disability? Go somewhere else.Human being that does fine with self-teaching by reading and then taking tests? 100% go to this school. One amazing thing though, you can start during any month. That's definitely a positive.I'll keep on keeping on the best I can because there's no schools here that offer anything aside from nursing. Beggars can't be choosers I guess.:(

I spent 4 days for a biology lab in this university. This was the best university I ever seen, it was not that big, but enough to get great connection between professors and students. I felt so comfortable in taking this lab in person though I have to travel from another province. Learned a lot from The best professor John and Megan!

I attained my master of education through Athabasca. Teachers were all accessible - though not at the drop of a hat (much like at any in-person university). Curriculum standards were the same as at U of T. The entire faculty was made up of professors who were actively teaching at other institutions in Canada, the US and (in one case) Greece.I can appreciate that some students at AU did not get the support they needed. However, that definitely was not the case for me during my time taking the master of education program.

I just recently wrapped up a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies with Athabasca and I can say that my experience with them was excellent from start to finish. Courses were challenging but flexible, the profs were great, and I so appreciated being able to pursue this degree without leaving my hometown or my job. Even Convocation was handled beautifully, and I felt so included even though I couldn’t be there in person. If Athabasca ever offers a doctorate in this program, I will definitely be considering it.

The fact I can work from home and at my own pace is great. the money I am spending for very little support and to read a textbook by myself is not worth it. it is very hard to have emails returned and I have waited forever on hold. I have applied for grants and scholarships that have required the providers to get into contact with the university and I ended up giving up the scholarships because they were unable to make contact with the university. The communication is lacking and I just received an email stating that the already high tuition is to increase by 5 percent in the next year.( update to this. DO NOT TAKE COURSES HERE) just interacted with a tutor about a midterm and all he did was be difficult that’s all this university is just difficult.
