Birth Control Centre

Over all, a lovely and welcoming clinic. I didn't feel judged, and every staff member I had so far has treated me with respect and dignity, even when I was at my lowest. I wish I had gotten the nurses names, so I could thank them.Only complaint is probably the wait times, both in clinic and on hold, but it's not too bad.

Dr. watson is amazing always makes me feel super comfortable. but unfortunately one time, they messed up the order and i was waiting 5 hours. people i clearly came before were getting called before me.

After a horrible experience a couple years ago, I vowed never to return here. However, today, I decided to go in at my own convenience, for testing as it’s close to home. I was pleasantly surprised at my visit this time. My doctor (Dr. Watson) went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and she made sure I left with all the answers to my questions. The nurses both at the desk and the ones working with the doctors were very comforting and knowledgeable without judgement! Something I really value when receiving health care especially something as important and private as sexual health. Glad I gave them another shot! 4/5 stars only because of waiting times. I will be returning in the future! Thanks

I’ve been coming to the Birth Control Centre for the last 4 years. Majority of the staff are so super sweet and really go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable and have all of your questions answered. I’ve only had two or three unpleasant experiences with a nurse or a doctor in the whole time I’ve visited the clinic, but I don’t think those experiences are an accurate representation of the clinic as a whole.I recently had my IUD inserted by Dr.Siu. She was amazing throughout the process, even though I was having a difficult time with it. Can’t recommend her enough. Today I saw Dr. Whalen-Browne for a follow up and she was so kind and caring towards me. She answered all of my questions no matter how small and never once made me feel like I was wasting her time or asking stupid questions. I really appreciate the great care I received from her today. I was so afraid to have any sort of pelvic exam done, but she made the experience much easier and less scary for me.And last but definitely not least, Nurse Barb! Barb is by far the best nurse I’ve ever seen not only at the clinic, but anywhere. She really goes above and beyond to take care of you, and help you with any problem you’re having whether it be medical or just life stuff. She’s extremely personable and she really shows that she cares. When I talk with Barb, I feel like I’m talking to a motherly figure. If it weren’t for covid, I’d be giving her the biggest hugs. You’re the best, Barb! Thank you for everything.Finally, thank you to all of the staff at the Birth Control Centre for everything that you do! I don’t want to go anywhere else for my *lady needs*.

I have taken a few youth to this centre over the years and have never once had a good experience. Specifically, the women who completes the intake is incredibly rude and starts the appointment off leaving youth feel unwelcome and a even more scared/anxious as they enter the waiting room. Support workers are not permitted to sit in the wait room with adolescents because “there isn’t enough seating” even though I can see there are multiple open chairs. I do not find this centre to be at all trauma informed which is disappointing considering I feel this centre is meant to support teens and women who are experiencing some difficult life circumstances. I have had youth come out of appointments in tears and unable to move forward with the appointment due to support workers being unable to support them through the appointment as requested. I will be seeking out alternative options to bring youth to for birth control as, time and time again, the youth I have brought here have has a less than stellar experience.

The nurses and doctors here are professional and helpful. Which would be great if the centre was actually accessible. Some days it says open until 6 pm but they are always full after 3/4 pm. This makes the birth control centre completely inaccessible for people who work during the day.I also tried to call to set up an appointment (as listed on Alberta health services, it says appointments available) only to find out the website is not updated and they no longer take appointments.

So far, have been spoken to rudely by a nurse and a receptionist after asking very simple questions. Got told to come in before 330 and I was there 325 and they turned me away. I get it, you’re busy, but atleast acknowledge the miscommunication/inconvenience this caused.

Called this clinic as I had somewhat of an IUD emergency, spoke to a nurse on the phone to which she said I definitely need to be seen and to come right over. I got to the clinic 30 minutes after the phone call, was at the clinics front door (to which you have to phone again to be let in), and was then told by the receptionist that they were now at a “pause” so no patients were to be seen. I asked if I could make an appointment, and you can’t. Pretty horrendous to be told to come to the clinic, then not even have the opportunity to wait to be seen by a doctor, and not be able to make a scheduled time. For there to be only two clinics to be a womens health centre downtown, this being one of them, and to be completely turned away with no other option given is truly disgusting.

I have struggled to find good Healthcare practitioners. I received what I consider to be my first great experience at this clinic! Staff were helpful both by phone and when I did a walk in. And could relate to me as a person instead of only as a random client. We got as much as possible addressed on the same day. Received a ton of useful advice and consultation RE: my IUD options and insertion as well as other concerns. And got some extra useful attention from the doctor I had. Very happy.
