Akira

The negative reviews seem to be from individuals who expected more from Akira than they offer. Akira shouldn’t replace your family doctor or walk-in clinic for many conditions - including something as “simple” as a cough. Anything that requires a physical examination to diagnose and treat should still be done locally. Just as you can’t expect Akira to test your urine for blood, you can’t expect them to listen to your chest if they aren’t in the room. But if you have something that can be diagnosed/treated without a physical exam, Akira is awesome. I spoke with a NP about my issue and within minutes, she had prescribed a medication, and faxed it to my pharmacy. I never left my bed. That is the future of medicine. Now if only OHIP would help with the costs.... I don’t need Akira enough for a subscription, but $50 a consult can cause moderate to severe pain to my bank account.

This app has been amazing for our family, both prior to finding a family doctor and afterwards. Having immediate access to nurses + nurse practitioners meant that we didn’t need to rely on emergency care, walk in clinics or wait weeks for an appointment with a doctor. The care has been professional, helpful and thorough. In many cases, I would much rather use the app and avoiding taking my baby into a crowded waiting room with sick patients. Love this app, worth every penny for us.

I feel obligated to write this review for the sake of others looking for help. In todays atmosphere of mental wellness, AKIRA failed at ensuring that someone who reached out for assistance was put in contact with someone that could help them. After spending the time to go through the intake process with the clinician and then directed to a webpage to do your own research on the service providers (other programs have a much better matching system) We were then advised that the provider chosen, was not accepting any more patients.....well maybe remove them from the listing. Instead someone who had taken the time to read every bio to find the right match....and make that hard choice to reach out for help, was turned away...this was just the rejection they didn't need. This is all it takes for a person in a delicate position to stop their search for help.

I personally used Akira more than half a dozen times and it’s always been a great experience—fast and smooth. I decided to leave a review with 5 stars after I started using another virtual healthcare provider (Dialogue.co) and had a bad experience on both occasions I used them. Too bad I’m stuck with Dialogue since it’s part of Sunlife Insurance that my employer is currently with.

I am fortunate enough to have access to Akira through my employer and it truly has been a lifesaver. I have always received efficient and quality service from the health care professionals and have even been followed through by a few. If you are able to use this service, do yourself the favor!

Could not be happier with this service. All practitioners have been superb. Very quick and reliable. Praises to the platform and practitioners.

Had a great experience with the app, the staff was very thorough and professional, and my prescription was ready at the pharmacy in less than an hour. A great convenient way to avoid the hassle of going to a walk-in clinic.

Paid monthly, received the same rotation of doctors whose next steps always included going to a walk-in near me to get checked out. They weren't able to send referrals, get in contact with, or be helpful in a way that would validate even the monthly subscription. I unsubscribed within three months of upgrading and I haven't turned back.

Rubbish. A scam. They misdiagnosed 3 out 3 times I have tried this service. I had a bad cough, the after affects of flu which I made quite clear from the start. When I the prescribed meds (inhaler) the notes said it was for asthma, breathing problems and one the side effects of the med was 'cough' . When I complained and asked for a supervisor callback I was told to go to a walk-in clinic or send email to support@akiramd.. I am worse off today, had to get a proper doctor to prescribe antibiotic. Akira has no telephhone # listed to get hold of anyone which shows this is not an upfront operation. Akira is all about marketing, sounds great but does not work the way they say it does.

I received an email advising that as a Manulife client, I have access to Akira, a great service. I have searched everywhere in their email and link. No mention of fees. Not impressed with this lack of transparency.
