I want to thank you everyone at the birth centre for the magnificent experience I just recently had with the birth of my third daughter. All the midwives I have been blessed with were extremely kind, knowledgeable and supportive since the beginning of my journey until now, with the post natal visits. I had the birth i have had imagined for nine months and I couldn’t be more happy I choose this location. The entire staff is amazing. A Special thanks to midwifes Julie who had followed me during pregnancy and post partum , to Marie Claude and Alexander that helped me giving birth to my daughter in a beautiful, safe and full of love experience. Highly recommend going to the birth centre if you want to give birth in a natural, warm and loving way.

Roksana is a good capable midwife, listened to me. But Michele was terrible, brushed off my questions, wouldn't actually listen to me and made gross assumptions (as well as transferring care and ditching me in labour because she couldn't be bothered). The maison de naissance is lovely, but I suspect your experience depends very much which midwife you get and how quickly you labour.

I have wanted to write a review of la maison de naissance for 8 months - I am so grateful for la Maison de Naissance for supporting me in the birth of my second baby, born in November 2020. However, I did experience quite a bit of disorganization at the beginning, as I was bounced around to four different midwives. I had gestational diabetes and was able to control it with diet, which added an extra layer to my pregnancy. I was expecting more of a deep connection to my midwife but due being switched around so much, I didn't get to establish the connection I expected. I was also unable to have the birth I planned due to Covid- no home birth (because we didn't have two bathrooms in our apartment), and no water birth (because covid can spread through feces in the water). I also wanted my two year old to be present but she was not allowed at the center. We had a doula but because of covid, she wasn't able to attend. I understand that la maison de naissance is not to blame for the covid restrictions. A birth only happens once, and it is something I will always have wished for. But I am grateful for the birth we did have. Towards the end of my pregnancy, there was construction on the main road. Having to park and walk from afar late pregnancy wasn't the best, and I would have liked some directions/guidance from la maison de naissance. During my pregnancy, before using the doppler (the machine to listen to baby's heart) the midwife suggest I let the baby know what was happening. I thought this was so thoughtful and something I had never thought of before. At our birth, there were two helpful students present. One came to me after the birth with the placenta, and let me touch it and examine it upclose. I really appreciated the time he took to do that. The space was beautiful and the staff so helpful and supportive- overall a pleasant experience, but pre birth I was not as impressed unfortunately. Post birth, I was followed by one midwife in particular. I had some breastfeeding troubles as I disovered that my baby had a tongue and lip tie two weeks after he was born. This delayed my milk supply- baby was hovering over the same weight and gaining slowly/not gaining for two weeks. I was able to be prescribed domperidone, which helped greatly. My midwife was not encouraging me to exclusively breastfeed during this time and suggested that I supplement with formula, which I resisted at first due to not wanting to introduce formula, and eventually did. A comment that stuck with me was that my breasts were shaped differently so breastfeeding was more challenging for me- which I don't think postively added to my breastfeeding journey. It was important for me to breastfeed and I understand that not everyone might care as much as I did. This period led to my first experience with breastfeeding grief and postpartum depression. Once we were able to get rid of the supplement, around month 4, things got better.I would defintely give birth here again, and recommend it regularly to those who are pregnant around me. I love the philosophy, however hope for a deeper connection, and better organization next time. I also love the tree canvas where we can write our child's name. I looked at that every time I came for an appointment before birth, and was excited to add to it.

Merci!
