Callahan David J Dr

Dr Callaghan has done two procedures for me and I have no complaints. He is personable, professional and answered all of my questions. He was also very clear on what the next steps are.

I met with Dr Callahan before breast lumpectomy and was told they would take the lump and sentinel lymph nodes out and do pathology on the lymph nodes during surgery, and that if they were cancerous they would take more lymph nodes. After surgery I didn't see him again. (the nurses I did see had no idea how surgery went either). I called Dr. Callahan's office and asked how surgery went and how many lymph nodes were removed. I was told they would tell me in two weeks when my pathology reports were in. I asked if I could find out now as it is my body and I'm wondering if in surgery they found cancer in the lymph nodes. She said it is an unusual request she would ask if she could tell me. She even said Dr Callahan may not even know.??!! I said well he better have written it down somewhere, and that I would find out and I would call several times a day until I found out about my surgery!! She called back within a few hours saying the surgery went well and that they took two lymph nodes. So, of course, I assumed no cancer in the lymph nodes. I had a doctors appointment for another issue and he told me he had my surgical report and that no pathology had been done during surgery. I called my nurse navigator and she said that pathology during surgery wasn't the procedure anymore. On a side note, the nurse navigator is an amazing resource and the best thing about this whole experience. She had no idea why Dr Callahan would tell me that. So now I am anxiously awaiting pathology reports. I think a surgeon should tell you how your surgery went. I talked to several women at the Healing Connections meeting and they all spoke to their surgeons after surgery.
