This hospital and the people working there are the absolute best top notch first class service... I would definitely drive way out of my way to go to this Hospital even if I had a gunshot... I honestly can't say enough good things

Joseph Brant hospital emergency room is one of the best emergency rooms I've been to. The wait time is a little longer than I thought, but it is not unreasonable considering I went there during the holiday season. The doctor and nurses were professional and nice. They took all the necessary tests to make sure I was okay and fully explained the cause of my symptoms.

There are a very, few, select ER Charge Nurses or Mental Health Charge Nurses that are employed the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital that actually exude everything it means to be a truly compassionate and skilled, and well trained ER Charge Nurses in this vital field. I can only imagine how overwhelmed the staff are, as there has always been a visible shortage of any staff available on the ER floor alone and especially with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, I extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude for your excellent service there on the frontline working everyday. It must be an extremely stressful career. I can understand, as an employee myself, in times of being surrounded by a plethora of individuals all needing assistance at once, how much “Work” must feel like simply that…“work” of another 12 hour shift on call. Please refrain though, from projecting one’s own negative emotions onto others, such as Patients that Staff are Responsible for the General and Basic Care of. That obviously, applies far more to the ER Medical doctors and On Call Psychiatrists there, than the ER and Mental Health Charge Nurses. There is an obvious Mental Health Stigma taking place in this particular ER as I Samantha Donohue am permanently scarred by hearing two ER Psychiatrists that I had never seen before, refer to me as: “yeah, she is just a pimple on the face of society but don’t worry, these kinds of people tend to eradicate themselves quite naturally…” as they left my dark ER room, casually discussing what to order at Tim Hortons next. I had closed my eyes as they had initially entered my ER room, curious of who or what these two older, white, male Psychiatrists I had never seen prior, were possibly hovering over me in the ER bed, were there to discuss at all. That remains to haunt me to this very day. In addition, I have learned my lesson regarding my place as a Mental Health Patient in terms of possibly receiving “a juice or muffin, please?” As I vividly recall politely asking an ER Charge Nurse still currently employed by JBH, and being patronized in front of other Nurses as this woman snidely quipped, “Real food items are only reserved for REAL PATIENTS”, as her colleagues seemed to stop themselves from chuckling. Of all the incredibly malicious words said to me, sadly, the feedback from this ER Charge Nurse and those two On Call Psychiatrists that were present prior to the pandemic…have remained seared into my memory with the throbbing and painful reminder constantly, of the kind of Patient or rather, Person, I have ever been viewed as to The ER Nursing Staff and On Call Physicians and Psychiatrists, of JBH. Please train all employees on basic DBT module based self soothing strategies for Patients in obvious Distress and deep breathing techniques in terms of just a few de-escalating methods to prevent any Code Whites being called, unnecessarily requiring ALL Security officers present to then, use extreme physical force, possibly injuring themselves in the process, for restraint purposes when Prevention Methods actually, have proven to be far more cost effective and less time consuming as proven this past year, as it is now implemented into both ER and Police and Paramedics basic training in various States of the U.S. Lastly, the less a Mental Health ER Patient is seriously victimized while already, vulnerable, under the care of ER Staff, the less likely they are to keep returning as a Patient. I am aware that a hospital bed in Canada, costs the government and tax payers, roughly $10,000 per NIGHT so Preventative Measures may be effective in reducing the deficit and balancing the Provincial Health Budget of Ontario. That is simply from my own research however I “am just a pimple on the face of society” and was never considered “a REAL patient”. Please, I am Sam Donohue and this is my very real and personal experience at this, less than qualified staff that are currently responsible for operating The ER, and PEZ Unit of JBH. Please Eliminate the Constant Mental Health Stigma that ALWAYS led me to carry immense shame for life.

ER is a disgrace. I was in level 10 pain and they said they were operating on a fist come first serve basis. LIKE A WALK IN CLINIC. They refused service. We went to another ER where we were immediately admitted. Given morphine for the pain, and my pefuse bleeding stopped. If you want to live, avoid this place at all costs.

Pretty much better than McMaster emergency or at. Joseph in Hamilton. The doctor is pretty good and has good bedside manners. Nurses need to be more humane though and wait time should be cut down 4.5 hrs today. Not tooooo bad but the old people who were there alone were not quite attended to as fast.

We were visiting Burlington from Toronto when an emergency happened to me and needed to go to ER asap. I’d say compared to anywhere in Toronto, I got urgent care an attention from doctors and nurses within 2-3 hours. They went above and beyond and I’m vert grateful.

Emergency was almost empty and even like this I have been waiting more than 4 hours, with serious symptoms and hard pain in my chest. Really bad atencion. After 6 hours they did an electrocardiogram, they have not given me any pain medication and the nurses here do not have any kindness or companionship, the service is really unpleasant

I’ve been here 4 times in the last 2 weeks, and let me say I always thought this hospital was the best. Too the point where I am an annual giving society member for Joseph Brent meaning I donate my own hard earned money every month. But let me say after the last visit I am not very impressed. This is my second visit for my partner because she is in immense pain, to the point where she can’t sleep or move. So I finally convinced her to go to the emerge to get the hospital to help her with relieving this pain. Then we find out they won’t give her anything to relieve the pain and that they had lost all of her tests they took a couple days ago. So now she has to go through all the immense pain of getting tested all over again because someone lost the tests. OK. I arrive back at the hospital to pick up my partner to find her completely breaking down crying because the Dr. was not sympathetic and gave her a suggestion of what it could be, but only tell her the worse case scenario. That is not a very appropriate way to deal with a situation.Imagine you go to the hospital for a checkup and the dr says “oh it’s probably cancer” you would loose your mind. Maybe if your giving suggestions start with the best case and end with the worse, not just the worse case scenario, or just wait for the test to show what it is.
