If you want to work towards advancing in a company this isn't the place to do it. When positions come up they hire externally and don't seem to appreciate your hard work and dedication is what ive experiencd and witnessed in my time employed there. Equipment is always broken, bandaid fixed, and never reliable. No heat in the locomotives about 80% of the time in the winter but expected to deal with it and just get the work done ( suprised that Transport Canada lets the locomotivs opperate legally). If you enjoy being told and promised things just to find out they changed there mind and told false statements then this is the place for you. For the wage it's not worth the hard work you are expected to perform, be prepared to be exhausted after every shift. If you are just looking for a paycheck then they will provide that. I would recommend to keep looking for a more promising career elsewhere. I also found that saying they aren't a Class 1" railway and operating like one seem to be confusing. I can't say I found it to be organized either. In Alberta's economy other jobs are more appealing."

12 hour shifts, 4 on, 4 off. actually i risked my life working here because they insist you wear the fire resistant suit in teh summer, so i would clearly get heat stroke all the time, and they never offered me to work 5 hour shifts. it was a major struggle for me.non unionized. i made $5 less per hour than all previous railways. they only pay 2 weeks vacation not 3,4,5, like other railways. its hard work here, you will be jumping up and down on rail cars all day. they make you wear fire resistant suits, and you are expected to wear them when its 30 degrees out. people were constantly leaving for other jobs. they piss test you randomly which is demeaning. they also regularily work you 10 minutes or so past your shift without pay, so alot of wage theftthe worst part is on the south side of the track, there is some kind of business where they put all kinds of dust and god knows what in the air, and we the workers end up breathing the stuff in.it may be good just for the experience, but i would certainly avoid the rail industry altogether.
