Family Health Team Ottawa

While my family doctor is wonderful, the administrative staff leave a lot to be desired. I dread calling every time because they are always rude, speak over you, cut you off, and once they even laughed at me and told me I was mispronouncing my own last name. They would benefit from some additional training in how to speak to people.

I love this family practice. They delivered my baby and have taken care of me and my kids for years. They always fit me in quickly when I need it, especially for the kids. Their nurse practitioners are amazing! They know everything! I recently learned how hard it is to become a NP and I have so much respect for them at this clinic.Dr. Whitehead is the greatest doctor and I am so lucky to have her as my primary. Dr. Kuling was so supportive after the birth of my first child when I was in pretty rough shape. Almost every resident has been thorough, kind and knowledgeable. Even when they didn’t know the answer to something, they have always known where to find the answer and then get a problem treated properly. I’m so lucky to have found such a great GP team.

Reception is rude. Interns are fine, but one intern laughed and rolled her eyes at me when I was discussing my emotional distress towards a situation. Additionally, you will need to re-explain yourself to different practitioners every time you go in.I wouldn’t recommend this practice; they have a lot to work on.

I have been going to this Team since 2002. I was going there about four times a year. I had outstanding care from my doctor, who recently retired from his practice. However, when he did this he discussed it with each of his patients in advance to ease transition. Since he had a role in finding a replacement, he told me that she was his top medical student. Thus the switch over went very smoothly and I am happy with my new doctor. Administration has been smooth for myself. However, there are busy times and there is a staff turnover. This is a teaching hospital team, so you may get a medical student to see you, particularly for routine visits, but they are supervised and observed by the supervisor (doctor). I have found them willing and able to answer my questions. In the odd case where they were not sure, they asked the doctor for the answer. I am happy to recommend them.

Got me in right away and the Dentist was beyond professional. Was the smoothest experience I’ve ever had with a dentist. Zoe was also super great!!!

I've been with the FHT here since 2006. I have always received excellent care. The entire team is professional, courteous and patient...from the medical staff to the administration staff. Extremely satisfied and feel confident in their care.

I must admit that I really regret the day I left my family doctor to transfer to the Family Health Clinic. I think I saw my actual doctor twice in all the years I have been with them. I constantly see different residents who are kind for the most part but I have to repeat myself every time and they all seem to have different thoughts and approaches, there is no consistency... even if they are supposed to be supervised by my doctor". If I could find a different family doctor

The past two months my doctor has unnecessarily complicated communications with a specialist, neglected to send important requisitions for nearly a month while treating me like a fool for not knowing about them, pushed SSRIs on me when I wasn't seeking mental health support, and overall been the biggest detriment to my mental health in the past 2 months, which says a lot considering I live with chronic pain.Admin staff are lovely though, as are the nurses, and residents.

Appointments often get rescheduled and every time it gets moved one month later.

Doctors are competent and helpful however the reception staff needs to be improved. When dialing to schedule an appointment, you need to wait ~2 minutes for their auto message to finish only to be told calls won't be taken between 11:30AM - 1:00PM. When you dial during the allotted hours you also must wait on hold for a very long time before being answered. Lastly, the woman who consistently works at the reception desk itself is not helpful whatsoever; her abruptness borderlines on abrasive. Adjustments to the administrative staff would vastly improve the overall experience at this practice.
