BC Children's Hospital Emergency Room

It's horror, horror and more horror. Keep sick children in line for 6-7 hours. This is not a normal attitude towards children and parents. Watching your child suffer and unable to do anything. This clinic does not deserve a single star.

horrible waiting time and too short of appointments, im 18 and mom had no idea of where the adult ER was.walking there is like a maze, big and easy to get lost..i got my inhaler from here thoughthe doctor was nice and funny and also a life saver for refilling my inhaler prescription wish i knew his name so i could thank him here

Staff was nice, but we left without being seen by the doctor, the wait was too long, however, I was happy to see that they were prioritizing babies that needed urgent care, and we didn’t need it.

Nice Building! But that is not the only thing people want.Inefficient and Lazy staff.They think they are in the amusement park, drink coffee and enjoy. They don’t care for anyone. They work slow and make overtime money.They strategically make patients wait.They don’t mind if patients wait for the whole day to see the doctor.So bring your food with you especially if you are with small kids.They say that they are very busy, because they just have no intentions to work.

My daughter was misdiagnosed at surrey memorial so I trusted my instincts as a mother because I knew something was definitely wrong as my daughter had respiratory distress. We drove to bc children's where the nurses noticed my daughter working so hard to breathe. My concerns were validated and the attending doctor was so knowledgeable heard my daughter cough ONCE and knew her airway had narrowed. I did have some back and forth with a resident but I understand it is a teaching hospital but the attending was so knowledgeable and I am so thankful for the nurses who checked in on us frequently and got me snacks and water as I hadn't had anything to really eat or drink due to tending to my daughter all day. Funny how a cold glass of apple juice really hits the spot when you are so thirsty. I am so grateful to this hospital and the staff. I know there is a shortage everywhere as I am a nurse myself, but I knew my daughter was in good hands and the nurses were above and beyond. Thank you to the doctor for not dismissing my concerns and respecting my instincts as a mother.

Kind, friendly and patient doctor and nurses, not their fault medical system is overloaded

Total horror. Doesn’t matter if you are first in line or 8th, prepare for 6+hours. This place is waste of time and tax money. Hugely understaffed. Don’t understand why we have good looking, well equipped hospital, if there’s no ppl who can actually providing health care at this place. Competent people who run this place, should seriously do something about this issue. Just look at all those 1 star reviews, tons of them. If your kid doesn’t have life threatening condition, don’t waste your time to come here. Go to family Dr. next day instead or go to different ER….All your kid is getting here is advil, tylenol and loss of 6+ hours….

Try to avoid at all costs until there is no other option. Multiple night visits in the past few months and always found only 1 night doctor regardless of whether there are 20 patients or 100 patients.Nursing staff will keep you waiting for hours and then assign you a room and again wait for hours for the doctor to show up. Mostly, after waiting for the whole night, the night doctor shift will be over, and you will be seen by the morning doctor. Come prepared!

I and 4 year old my son went to the ER around 3.20pm and were leaving there 8.45pm without seeing any doctors. Waiting for over 5hrs was absolutely for nothing. A walkin doctor recommend my son needed to go to the ER right away because my son could suffer from a appendicitis. I know there are many exceptions and emergencies but I have no idea because some teenagers eating a hamburger and walking all around was assigned a word right away when registered. However, we didn't even have our word and just wait at the waiting area. For 4 year old who may have a appendicitis, that was ...way unfair. If they explained who or what is the first priority, that would be reasonable. Now I have gotten a headache and back pain after waiting at the waiting area.

I came here and told them that I have to check the health of the child and the status of the fetus. My wife is in her last month of pregnancy. No one respects us. We waited 4 hours here and they didn't do anything for us. They put adhesive tapes on our hands and told us to go to an outpatient clinic. This is disastrous. Or maybe our skin is not very light in order to provide us with the support we need to know
