I had to go to the New West City Hall today. The staff were very helpful and polite. The information staff member told me I had come at a busy time, but directed me to a numbered wicket. There I was served promptly. While I was waiting for the information two other members asked if I had been served.

The noise pollution is getting worse in New West- City has no air quality bylaws which is surprising since thousands of vehicles drive through it each day. The train issue has been discussed for over 10 years and no changes have been made. Train whistles, shunting and idling beside buildings go on night and day. At 7 AM pile driving begins at new Bosa development on Quayside Drive- a three year project, then council is going to approve a 4th tower for Plaza 88 on the other side of Mc Ginnis overpass so that residents will hear construction noise all day from east and west. Traffic congestion is a problem and these two projects will go ahead without addressing it. In addition, the City has no enforcement or bylaws to reduce noise from daily mowing and leaf blowing that continues all day. The strata at Quayside Terrace frequently has diesel operated cranes on the fire lane so they can clean gutters and wash windows emitting diesel fumes 2 feet from our windows and at over 80 decibels of sound for 8 hours, neighbors are out on their balconies with power saws on Sunday -again no enforcement -police won't even attend. The toll on taxpayers health is extreme -humans can only take so much continuous noise before their health is compromised. Get some bylaws in place-ban leaf blowers, adopt a bylaw prohibiting noise for ONE day a week-Sunday. Progress is inevitable -but not at the price of putting peoples health at risk. Put up some gates so that trains can go through the area at night without blowing their horns at 3AM. Update your bylaws new council -they date back to 1996

New West is a very nice city with historic attractions and buildings but FIX YOUR TRAFFIC SYSTEM!!!!!! It all started when my family and I were leaving Burnaby and entering E Columbia St. My grandpa was driving us and were on E Columbia St for 2km, and suddenly TRAFFIC JAM cause of McBride Blvd Construction. So I took Cumberland St and 6th Ave. Then more JAMS on McBride Blvd and 6th Ave. On our way to Richmond. It was fine. On our way home, We used Hwy 91A and the Queensborough Bridge and Another JAM all the way to the south end of the bridge. Then, we exited the bridge and took Stewardson Way and when we hit Columbia St at the north end of Downtown, We noticed the gate was closed for the Pattullo Bridge entry. Then a MASSIVE LINEUP FOR THE BRIDGE. I have no idea why TransLink you guys have to close it. It closes from 3pm to 6pm Mondays and Fridays. When I got at an earlier point of E columbia St. I saw a fast line of traffic on the Pattullo Bridge earlier. Then, a full traffic jam all thanks to McBride Blvd construction. I think there removing the crosswalk. They took our time and took the southbound traffic moving. Then We hit Front St. and people block our line and I have no idea why it was closed. I yelled to the traffic blockers DON'T BLOCK THE INTERSECTION

Nic, at the planning department, was very patient, thorough and informative about a land I was wondering the future and past of. Fantastic manners and outstanding customer service skills. No wait time to answer the phone either. Great experience, thank you.

Staff are nice and helpful, but their website needs a major overhaul. They have two ways to do things online: Online services and customer connect, but try to figure that out by going to the website. There is no intuitive way to know this unless you call them. You should have ONE way to connect online that does everything you need and it should be front and centre on your website. It is as if their website hasn't been updated since 1990. Just pay a web designer, and use an efficient city's website as an example... like Vancouver.

I would vote zero if I could. I called this place to inform them about a road safety issue for children going to school for safety, so they directed me to engineering or something and this is where the issue was. I was told I have to email my concern to them and I can't even explain the issue on the phone with them, are you kidding me? I'm literally on the phone talking to them and then told I can't tell them anything on the phone, is this a joke? So much for caring about the safety of children in New Westminster, this issue could of been dealt with pretty quickly if you people had let me explain the issue while on the phone with me already, but instead you'd rather take this long approach to dealing with safety issues for the residents of New Westminster, doing a horrible job over there.

Great place to live, however the city needs to seriously consider tolling non-residents. Heavy congestion throughout the day. Residents are stuck footing the bill to maintain the roads when the majority of the traffic is from people passing through to save a buck by not paying the toll on the Port Mann.
