Sunrise of Oakville

Came over from UK to see my Aunt and Uncle. First time we could get here since Covid. Sunrise is a lovely place for them. They are cared for, eveyone knows them, staff are nice and friendly, and the place is lovely and clean. Thank you to you for looking after them.

It was one of the hardest decisions of my life to put my parents in a home but needed to be done for their overall health and safety. I feel good knowing that they are in such good hands and being taken care by such kind, caring and tireless staff. Thank you all for the support through the entire process.CATHY PILON

We have had a family member staying with Sunrise of Oakville for two years now and couldn’t be happier with the level of service and caring that they provide.They are responsive, friendly and genuinely caring for our family member. A great team!

Passionate individuals providing top quality care for seniors requiring assistance. Highly recommend this establishment for seniors who are independent, those that require assisted living, as well memory care.

Initially we were pleased with the look, location and meals at Sunrise. There are some excellent staff members who are friendly and as helpful as possible but as our loved one's Alzheimer's progressed we felt that the staff and former manager did not have sufficient training, patience or the time to deal with these aggressive behaviours, we were often made to feel by some staff members as if our loved one's behaviours were our fault while we trusted the Sunrise 'experts' to guide us in what is an unknown disease to us. We did what was asked of us, paid for extra caregivers from an outside agency, medical interventions/assessments from outside of Sunrise then we found that Sunrise staff did not communicate or welcome the extra caregivers and often medications were prescribed by the Sunrise GP or nurses without consulting the Geriatric Psychiatrist - we felt we constantly had to be on top of things. For the cost of the residence/Reminiscence floor we expected so much more and were consistently told by outsiders (doctors, EMTs) that much better care would be provided in a provincial Long Term Care home. I would say Sunrise would be okay for respite care for short periods but please don't make the mistake we did and keep your loved one on the provincial LTC waitlists.

After 15 years with Alzheimers and being cared for at home, Mom had such a rapid decline that the CCAC had not yet approved her for the crisis list, but we had to find somewhere fast as it had suddenly become too dangerous to keep her at home any longer. Sunrise in Oakville was that beacon of light in the darkness! Within a few short days Mom was safe and secure on their 'Memory Care' floor. That was only the beginning though of the care, concern and professionalism shown by the management and staff. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone at this wonderful place, but especially to Bas Eldajani, Executive Director and to Andrea Simmill, Reminiscence Coordinator and all of the amazing staff on the 4th floor. Their dedication and compassion, visible every day, was truly remarkable and we will always remember their kindness.

I can't say enough good things about Sunrise. My parents moved in about 18 months ago and have both since passed away. I was so grateful I knew they were getting the care they needed during the Pandemic. PSWs were very caring. Flowers would just show up to brighten my parents' room. They would always let me know in advance when my parents were running out of supplies. They were able to provide both my parents with end of life care so that they did not die alone in hospital. During the entire pandemic there was only 1 outbreak" which in their case was 1-2 workers with positive tests. They kept all the residents safe and healthy. I think the staffing ratio is just more reasonable than a lot of places so everyone isn't rushed off their feet and therefore have time to sanitize etc... When residents couldn't leave their rooms the staff went visiting with activities. The wellness team (Danielle and Whitney) couldn't have been more helpful. Danielle in particular didn't just do "her job" but would help with what ever needed doing."

I moved my aunt into Sunrise January 2020. We were impressed with the efficiency and communication during the initial intake process. Our first impression had been how cozy this residence felt. She has been welcomed into this community with open arms. The staff have been fabulous with providing care and are very compassionate. We have been impressed with Sunrise’s ability to communicate with families and manage the challenges that COVID has presented. They have adapted and continue to provide meaningful activities and keep residents connected. My aunt conveys how happy and grateful she is for Sunrise.

My mother has been at Sunrise of Oakville for 5 years now. After visiting 20 different places I picked Sunrise of Oakville and I am very happy I did. What make it so great is the staff. I can sleep at night knowing that she is loved and cared for especially at this time during covid when it is more difficult to see her. Thank you to all the wonderful people at Sunrise who put the residence first and treat them like family, you are all very special.

My mother has been at Sunrise of Oakville for 3 years, residing on the memory floor. I have been very happy with the attention to care and dedication of the staff to the residents. The staff are long term employees who are always pleasant and go out of their way to make mom comfortable and safe. Residents are engaged in daily activities and provided with a homelike and inviting surrounding.
