I work for a medical facility. I have probably placed 5 calls to Poison Control over the years. The LEAST amount of time I waited for someone to answer is 30 minutes. It has been upwards of an hour at times. How is this acceptable? I can't imagine a parent at home calling because their child ingested something, and having to sit for an hour with a phone to your ear? Is there only one person answering the phone? Whoever funds this place needs to step up for more staff. Completely and totally unacceptable

Years ago telehealth transferred my call to them. The person I spoke to insisted that the cleaning products I used couldn't have caused those symptoms. I didn't realize it was the mold I was cleaning with the products, they just hung up on me. I was young, and didn't know better but I should've gone to the hospital.. I could barely breathe.

I spoke to Amanda & she was amazing! Picked up right away and had maybe 3-4 minutes of a wait to see if everything would be okay. She was excellent at keeping me calm and reassuring me that I would be okay. So thankful for her!

I was helped by a very friendly nurse who was very helpful and knowledgeable. Of course, I was on hold for a bit but it's understandable given it's a free service operated by healthcare professionals. Not to mention that this is during a time where immense stress is being put on the healthcare system. Given the circumstances, this service delivers above and beyond expectations and I am very grateful for their assistance.

I've called 3 times now and each time the lady I have spoken to is calm, kind, and reassuring. I'm so grateful for this service! There can be a wait but I've never had more than 15-20mins.

Very helpful, got through right away and was assured I would be ok. Tried to contact my pharmacy first but was on hold for 15 minutes then hung up on...twice! If I ever need help again I will call poison control first. Thank you!!

How can they possibly keep hospitals on hold in a queue for over an hour?? This is not just unacceptable but dangerous and unnecessary!!

With many kids, I've had to call a few times over the years. I can only say amazing! These people that take your calls are heaven sent. They know their stuff, reassure you, always remain calm, and are always so very polite. Keep it up!!!!
