Gatewest Coin

After reading all the reviews, I have come to the conclusion that I made a mistake going there. I cannot believe a professional business would reply to these reviews like Gatewest does.So, I found 2 bags of coins at Value Village and emailed Gatewest Coin to see if they would check them out for me. Email response was very pleasant, and they responded sure they would check them with no charge. I found 2 gold coins and 15 silver coins in the bags, ranging from 1917 to 2000. I was greeted by a heavy set older woman with black hair, and she right away told me that they are worth $6 CAD and that is all she was going to pay for them. She threw all them together in a plastic container to weight them, without care. All I could think was well if there was any value

The old lady who works at the front is legitimately the worst person I’ve ever interacted with in my life. She told me she wasn’t interested in answering the questions I had. I was looking to get some coins valued and she told me I was wasting her time, my wife and I were the only ones in the shop. She was very rude to my wife almost immediately.

I recently acquired some gold when my father passed away. I knew where my father had purchased (another province) so I used that place as a starting point in my research. I came across Gatewest coins and they had much better prices. The gal there offered me some great advice as well. I highly recommend them.

Rudest employee I have ever met! I went in to sell some silver, it wasn’t a lot, but money is tight and every little bit helps. I go in, employee immediately snaps that they have a minimum now and there’s no way what I had that would meet it. I politely express my disappointment because I had really hoped to get at least a little money and didn’t realize they had a minimum. Employee implies that I’m lying about not having encountered the minimum before, and then grabs the bag from me and says they’ll check it. They then came back repeated that it is below the minimum and THROWS one of the pairs of earrings on the counter at me, sneering that “it’s not even solid silver”, as though I was trying to con them, when I had told them up front I wasn’t sure they were real silver.I then ask the other employee, who was very polite, if she knew of any place that didn’t have a minimum like theirs, and the whole time I was trying to talk to her, that other employee was interrupting and talking over us.I finally had enough, turned to them and told them how rude they were, at which point they tried to claim I was the rude one and told me to get out and not come back. Which I wasn’t planning to ever do anyway.Do not go to this place unless you enjoy being talked down to, interrupted, and treated like you’re worse than dirt.

The elderly lady who works here isn’t professional at all. I went there with my mom and other person was attending us and she jumped in and started bragging about the rules that doesn’t even make any sense. I called earlier at 3pm before walking in and I’m pretty sure it was the old lady over the phone,I asked her to repeat the price and she yelled back, look like she doesn’t like her job at all or have anger issues.

I had a large amount I wanted to do business with them with, so I decide to make a really small transaction to see how it goes. I walk in with 50 beautiful silver maples. The older lady with black hair must have been triggered when I asked her what their buy price was for previous year silver maples because she refused to tell me then demanded I show her what I had, then quoted me a different price then what it said on their website. She then demanded I have to give her my social insurance number lol gluck with your silver spoon purchases they obviously don’t like real money.

I've been a customer of Gatewest's for many years and have always had exceptional service. Nic (and Anne) go above and beyond in customer service. They are extremely knowledgeable in 'the market' and their products. I see their prices as fair (actually more than fair) in comparison to other businesses. I've only had one very small 'problem' and when I brought it to their attention, Gatewest resolved it IMMEDIATELY to MORE THAN what I ever expected. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I hope Gatewest is in business FOREVER, because I don't know where else I would go to feel confident that I'm getting the best value for my money.

I don't know why they make you put one star but I give them minus one star minus five stars that lady was so rude I was there at 4:50 p.m. and said they close in 1 minute cuz she had to put s*** away wow I can't believe the prejudice enjoy your supper lady

Poor customer service, rude. Very rude. No interest in helping me find what I need. I felt like they didn't want my business the first 10 seconds I came in to the store. Nothing interesting there for serious coin collectors. Looked disorganized store. No gold coins on display. Everything worth checking out is hidden. Display coin items mostly...inferior cheap stuff. Owner was away when I came. The cashier lady did not or could not show anything else. U.S. coins mostly junk. No silver US coins on display. Just save your time and go online or to another coin store.

I brought my mother here today to make a purchase and we had the misfortune of dealing with a very rude elderly lady in glasses and elaborate fake nails and lots of jewellery. We went in curious and with questions and it was very clear this woman did not want to attend to us. This lady raised her voice at my mother when she asked her to repeat the price of jewellery she was looking at. This woman made us feel like we were unwelcome to shop here. We did make a purchase as the prices here are very good and we will continue business, but we will request to have someone else attend to our purchases. The young man that works there great and very knowledgeable.
