So disappointed in CG. Bread and bun sections, nothing is fresh. Every package I checked was hard and stiff. Found that it is baked in Chase River store but unfortunately by the time it gets here is isn't fresh! Also meat department is really gouging, I bought packages of breaded pork cutlets last week and a few more this week, (comparable in weight) to last weeks. Last weeks cost $2.81 and 2.99. This week 4.99 and 4.75. That is a ridiculous amount to add n a few short days. I will be shopping elsewhere. :( .

We found some very good value purchases at this grocery store in Ladysmith..we also enjoyed a coffee in the 49th Parallel Cafe..

Decent shop if you're in the area. Interior design of the shop however doesn't feel too pleasant, it doesn't feel cosy. You can get your groceries here but don't have the feeling you want to stay there any linger than necessary

49th was a fantastic grocery store, and I really do love the Country Grocer in Chase River, but the Country Grocer takeover in Ladysmith has been profoundly disappointing. We used to have a store that carried a fantastic selection of products including things that are hard to find here on the island, allergy friendly products and great local products and we could do all our shopping in one place. We can barely do half our shopping here now. It's a deluge of corporate brands and TV sets with a about a quarter of the diversity of products. They got rid of smaller shopping carts in a small store where large carts are a huge hindrance. It feels like management never even bothered to look at the actual store or its demographic in any way.

Unfortunately the fruit in the produce section is often left on shelves and sold while actively mouldy. Now that they are turning into a Country Grocer, the most affordable products have dissapeared and are being replaced by more expensive alternatives.Staff are always lovely. Would love to see a self checkout so I can go at my own pace.

Some of the cashiers are so rude and snooty. Do they think they are models on a runway in France? Come back down to earth, your a cashier not a rock star. Food is great though as well as the rest of the staff

Not sure why everyone is complaining about the switch over- We happen to love it, as we hated the 49th store & would never shop there as it was way overpriced and had low quality items.CG is the opposite, they also have great deals!! Shop the flyers!Would love an ugly" produce section for lower prices & maybe the option to have unwrapped produce would be awesome- But that's an every store change I wish would happen not just here. Please ignore all the old people complaining... The newer/younger generations loves having country grocer!Happy we don't have to drive to nanaimo or cobble hill now for CG!"

I used to work here as a cashier. It wasn’t the worst job I’ve had but it wasn’t the greatest either. I was appalled by all the things supervisors can get away with doing and even more so with upper management for not seeing what was going on right under their noses. There was a lot of bullying going on mainly the older girls picking on the “new/ younger” girls. Ageism, and other things like that I had seen and still nothing was done about it. The 49th parallel is a greed machine.-severely disappointed, I was so excited to work there because it was my first real job. Thank you to the few good employees that made it worth while.

I paid very close attention to pricing at the 49th before crossing over to CG due to the fact that I find CG to be overly priced to begin with. Not surprised that most items, unless on sale, have increased in prices substantially. Stopped in today and the sales were very limited but what was shocking was the price of watermelon, $14.99! When I got home I checked every grocery store online between Duncan and Nanaimo and CG is the highest priced.Ladysmith and Chemainus are small communities with little in the way of competition. Ladysmith has Save On Foods whereas Chemainus only has CG. For people who are unable to travel to Duncan or Nanaimo for more reasonably priced groceries, those on fixed or low income are restricted to CG and their almost criminal pricing.
