Deford Contracting Inc

Deford worked on a highway widening project for a local church in St.Albert and damaged one of my signs that was on private property. When I sent them the pictures and started the discussion they were pleasant but now they will not respond. I don't know why anyone would hire a company that doesn't take care of its mistakes... Very unprofessional.

I worked last summer (2021) as a flagger/labourer with minimal issues. I had every intention of coming back this year, I found a passion in paving but when it came time to getting my job back, it was a nightmare. The paving division's management was overhauled during winter so everyone's new. The new Superintendent lacks communication skills. On more than one occasion was I left trying to get ahold of him for weeks (sometimes months) on end. A lot of empty promises were made by him and his partner; I was promised a position to come back to, and a fair chance at a promotion as I was very transparent about wanting to further my career in paving. I unfortunately ended up being in an accident and wasn't able to join the team until recently. I had kept the lines of communication open during my recovery though. Many times I was told that I would be welcomed back, they'd have a position for me and that they'd try to make any necessary accomodations. I pushed myself so I would be cleared asap and the day it happened I messaged the superintendent immediately as I was very excited that I was able to finally get back to work. Again I was left waiting a week, after reaching out 3 times, for a response. I was told upfront during my interview that I wouldn't be allowed to flag for any crew that my partner was working with, which is part of the reason I was very surprised when I found out one of the flaggers was the Super's wife (working with/for family is generally frowned upon in construction), but thats fine, as long as theres no drama. When I finally got ahold of the super I was told there wasn't room for another part time flagger and becase I was only cleared for a certain amount of hours per day, that it wasn't something he could work with. When I mentioned my experience level with the thought that I could aid in assisting or training if necessary I was flat out called rude" because his wife has "3 years" of experience and I "didn't know what I was talking about" (which when I spoke with his wife directly she stated that she started flagging last season). Coworkers car was hit and run, and the Deford guys came over to let us know. Even tried their best to help us identify the time it happened.

I recently had an unfortunate situation in which clay was delivered to my mother's driveway in error. This covered half the driveway and we were unable to get our vehicle out of the driveway. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find who could of done this and looking for a resolution. My mother is a senior with health issues and the situation was completely baffling and disheartening. I was quoted upwards to $1,000 by other companies to clear this dirt. I reached out today to Deford Contracting and spoke to Steve, the Fleet Coordinator. He was extremely sympathetic to the situation even though this was NOT the responsibility of Deford Contracting or their doing. However to my amazement and my upmost gratitude, Steve and the owner, Carey DeFord said they would clear it at no $ cost. I burst into tears. There are a myriad of things the world could benefit from having more of. Kindness, compassion and exceptional generosity is one of many and I can say with 100% confidence that Deford Contracting is evidence that still exists. This was no small act of kindness, this was and is a HUGE relief to my mother and I. I cannot extend enough appreciation and gratitude for what this company has done for us. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness to Steve, Carey and the workers they sent, Rob and Todd. They went above and beyond in ensuring the driveway was completely cleared and illustrated such empathy, concern and kindness to the situation. This company and its employees are truly emblematic of the definition of kindness. It's not doing something for someone else because they can't, but because YOU CAN and Deford Contracting have exponentially illustrated this today. Going the extra mile is one of the most important things and measures of a good company. Deford Contracting is clearly a company that has ticked all the boxes of the meaning going the extra mile. If you are looking for the services Deford Contracting provides, I highly recommend them not only for being able to do a quality job however for being good people with good values. Great company, large enough to do most any job small enough to have a family atmosphere.

Amazing organization, anyone who has met this team knows how organized and professional they are. I would absolutely recommend working with them if you have not already.
