Great for young children. When the tide is out, they can walk far off the shore and not be over their heads. We were able to find lots of shells and crabs in the shallow water

Definitely, definitely don't miss this spot! It's just like a tropical paradise, the ocean is so warm and clean. My favourite spot in Cape Breton so far! Bring something to float on as you can ride the current from the river to the open ocean. What an amazing spot!

Super nice beach. You can walk far away and still reach the ground. My toddler had a great time there. We will definitely go again

The beach is clean and the area well maintained by staff. On a hot summer day enjoy a refreshing dip in the Atlantic! Bring along a beach umbrella. The sun can make its effect know! Also find a wooden walkway running parallel to the beach. Plan for at least a 3 hour stay.

Love this beach! Sand bar at low tide is great for young children. Higher tides .. beautiful for swimmers. .

Great little Beach front to take the dog for a walk. Boardwalk is showing its age so just be careful where you walk.

Facilities: Mira Gut Beach features outdoor washrooms and change rooms, a boardwalk and occasionally a mobile canteen on site. The beach is patrolled in the summer by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS).Beach Safety: Mira Gut Beach is generally a safe beach at low tide. Visitors to the beach can walk for kilometres along the sandbar at low tide which makes this beach ideal for families. However, there is a strong current to the right of the beach along the breakwater rocks, which runs along the beach due to the Mira River. This current can pose dangerous conditions for weak swimmers. Mira Gut is a very calm beach when it comes to beach conditions. Most days there is relatively little surf but, because of its location, occasional high surf days do occur. The supervised swimming area is marked by two red and yellow flags on the beach. Swimmers are encouraged to stay between the red and yellow flags to avoid the current. The lifeguards advise patrons to swim in the supervised area to avoid the hazards of the channel and rocks. Floatation devices are not permitted on days when the wind is blowing offshore.History: Mira Gut Beach is located on the former path of a mining railroad, that used to run from Glace Bay to Louisbourg. The scarce remains of the railroad can still be found along parts of the shore - the most visible being the Mira Gut one lane bridge. Improvements to the original site include an expanded parking lot, a boardwalk, change houses, and a lifeguard hut, all initiated by the Mira Gut Development institute.
