The sum of my experience at Powell Place is how some staff, like the morning shift, didn't seem aware or believed that there are profound differences between deaf culture & hearing culture/societal expectations.To prevent further incidents like what happened to me, staff would benefit from attending workshops/training about Deaf culture & what behaviors it might appear as. Hopefully, that will help make Powell Place be more understanding and inclusive towards Deaf people with/without trauma.------As for myself, if I had to return to the shelter down the road?Then I only hope I'll be able to show staff who I really am & get on the right foot.I hate knowing my deafness already things harder for workers, but I'm also a human being. I MUST live my life this way, essentially being a hinderance anywhere I go.

The staff here are pretty amazing and very supportive and understanding of ones issues....awesome place
