I enjoyed my stay at Whitney Hall. The building may be old but it was spacious and convenient for my summer stay. It was convenient for my two month stay. The personnel were friendly and social activities for the hall made me meet people from different countries and even share experiences

In the summer it gets super hot in this old building with no a/c. Many of the dryers don't work and people don't know how to flush in the shared bathrooms. The latter isnt UofT's fault though. Otherwise it's a cheap place to live in the summer and the staff do their best to make sure things are clean and in working order. Location is also great.

Rooms are good but without air conditioning. The main kitchen is only on the ground floor (other floors just have a microwave oven). There are sufficient all-gender washrooms, but not so clean; also, showers feels more like a tap in many washrooms. Rooms are decent big. I liked they provide wardrobe. Overall the hall gives you the feeling as if you are staying in some old house, and I liked the feel. I do wish they renew many things.

In the summer, living in Whitney Hall can be a nice experience, especially if you have a courtyard view from your window. The location is good with many UofT libraries (ie. Gerstein and Robarts) and only a 6 minute walk to Museum station or a 10 minute walk to St. George station. If you can't deal with humidity, I would splurge and live in Morrison. Otherwise, be prepared for unkempt kitchenettes, showers breaking down, and a splash of food theft (if you leave your food in the communal fridges). Laundry here can also be a nightmare on account of the ineffective dryers. On another note, the double rooms are spacious and if your room is on the courtyard side facing the field, living here can be bearable without A/C (I'd recommend having at least one fan though). The residence also tries its hand at community get-togethers and events like board game nights, summer BBQs, and trips to some of downtown Toronto's photogenic spots. More of my complaints lie with the mandatory meal plan and the two places where you can use this meal plan, which are Café Reznikoff and Ferguson Hall. Overall, this is an okay place to live, but make sure to choose carefully if you have other options.
