Tofino Gallery Contemporary Art

My husband and I visit Tofino at least twice a year. We really find it a magical place to enjoy nature and the amazing beauty that the area offers. I had read about the Tofino Contemporary Art Gallery a few years ago and was excited to check it out.The gallery is an intimate light filled gallery that showcases a number of different artists. It’s a lovely space where you just want to linger and enjoy the curated collection that Leah has created. Leah, the owner of the gallery, is passionate about her collection of artists in the gallery and is happy to discuss and share her knowledge with you. Each time I visit the gallery I can count on seeing new art pieces and learning more of what makes each piece so special. This is the only gallery that I have been to where my mind consistently goes to “where could I put that piece!” Over these last few years I have purchased three very different pieces from three artists. I love them all. Talking with Leah and her team is always a pleasure. It’s one of the many reasons why I keep going back.

This past week I went to the Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art and was blown away by the range of mediums. The first sight you’re met with is kind faces, and exciting colours. The gallery manager (Monse, I believe) answered all of my questions about the artists, it was refreshing and evident that she had met and spoken to them about their artwork. The gallery is warm, and despite its small size it’s able to portray the art in a very engaging fashion. The lighting was very complimentary to the works. I will be back very soon.

Tucked in the side of a building behind the Rhino Coffee House on Campbell Street in downtown Tofino, this is a wonderful find. As you might hope in a place that is literally awash with beauty, there's a community of artists and art lovers on the west coast. Most galleries in the area specialize in landscape/seascape and Indigenous themes/styles/artists, so a gallery with a clear focus on contemporary art is a very welcome addition. The owner-operators are both knowledgeable and delightful. We purchased a piece -- after several repeat visits -- and the process could not have been smoother or more personalized. Took delivery just days later in Vancouver. Highly recommended as a place to visit and enjoy and learn a bit about contemporary art ... and as a place to buy something for your home or office.

We had a great discovery - the Tofino Contemporary Art Gallery tucked away and even greater discoveries of the beautiful art and wonderful host in Leah. We ended up buying on of Ben Fox’s Imaginary Beach #10 before it was hung up. What a wonderful piece! Our experience was wonderful and our new acquisition was shipped on time and very well packaged. We would highly recommend this gem of a gallery when you are out on the West Coast

We were thrilled to discover the Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art on our recent trip to Tofino. We love contemporary art and were looking to add a few pieces to our collection, ideally by BC artists. We are delighted with the painting and sculpture we bought. Every once in a Blue Moon I come across a business that is so outstanding in every aspect that i have to write about it.My wife and I were on holidays in Tofino BC on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island when we came across an art gallery in town.The gallery is called the Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art and so many aspects of this business impressed us from the moment we walked in. First off the owner Leah McDermid chose a somewhat hidden space at the back of a building facing a lane instead of a an expensive space on “the front row” of the main street in the town of Tofino.Leahs choice to open her gallery away from the hustle and bustle of the main street in town showed us the confidence she has in her artists, their work, her experience and keen eye.There’s an amazing collection of BC painters and sculptures whose friendships Leah has cultivated over many years and their work simply speaks for itself.My wife and I chose two fun , colourful large paintings by Lucy Schappy which we have in our living room in Victoria. We feel so lucky to have been there to meet Leah and Bruce and due to the size of the paintings they were also kind enough to offer to bring them to our home and help choose the perfect space for them.We look forward to our next visit to Tofino and Leahs Gallery next August and while we can follow the work that Leah acquires on her website , theres quite nothing like seeing all the amazing originals in her gallery.Kindest regards,Matthew MacNeil

The Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art is simply outstanding in every way! Not just a beautifully bright space to wander through, but full of pieces that are diverse, vibrant, current and unique. All curated and displayed meticulously by Leah, the owner, and her lovely staff. My husband and I make a point of visiting every time we're in Tofino as the Art is ever changing. It a must 'do' when on the West Coast.We recently purchased a figurative piece online, and the purchase process and subsequent delivery to Victoria couldn't have been made any easier.Lucy Schappy's 'Buenos Aires' now hangs on our wall to be enjoyed every day. We just love it!

I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful gallery on a recent trip to Tofino. The caliber and diversity of contemporary art are excellent, with an accessible range of pricing. The space is beautifully and thoughtfully curated. For a small gallery, it packs a big punch. Leah and Monse were a pleasure to speak with and were knowledgeable and passionate about the artists represented. I highly recommend visiting this gallery on your next trip to Tofino.

Beautiful gallery in the charming seaside town of Tofino. On a recent visit, I had seen a painting by Marion Evamy. I was still thinking about it a few weeks later and decide to purchase it - but we had no plans to make the trip out to Tofino. The owner kindly offered to deliver the painting to our home as she travels regularly between Victoria and Tofino. So we are the happy new owners of Rubbernecking Again!
