I had a distal radius fracture that occured in early November that did not heal properly and was incredibly painful. I was referred to Dr. Schuringa in February and he performed surgery using a bone graph from my hip and a plate. He was personable, approachable and professional. I am very pleased and grateful for the increased mobility I have gained and the success of the surgery. You are in good hands" with Dr. Schuringa and the Handworx clinic."

Dr. Schuringa saved my spouse's wrist... it was shattered into 6 pieces and it initially didn't show the extent of the break on the first x-ray. Schuringa rushed him into surgery asap when he saw him 2 weeks out from the injury. (his wrist-bones were a mess, trust me I saw the new x-ray and I wondered how they could fix that?). My spouse has 80-90% range of flexibility back and 100% strength after a year of physio. I think he is so lucky to have a wrist that works so well after looking at the x-rays. Thank you to Dr. Schuringa ... I'm sure that was not easy to do.

Since more than 2 years, I am living a complete nightmare following a simple surgery of the wrist requiring (cyst removal), surgery performed by Doctor Schuringa. Before I begin my story, I would like to point out that I never thought I could not trust medical staff whose members swore an oath to respect, protect and treat every human being properly! Whatever the duties of the medical staff, some of them are extraordinary, dedicated, competent, empathetic, human! I had to deal with the opposite of these great people! At the hospital, on the day of my surgery, a nurse performing my admission, informed my husband and me that I was going to undergo a general anesthesia and therefore, I had to take off most of my clothes.I categorically refused, stating that I explicitly told Doctor Schuringa that I refused general anesthesia and his office had confirmed to me that Doctor Schuringa agreed that I would only have a local anesthesia! The nurse held her position even if I cried, I trembled with fear and continued to refuse to undress. My husband and I asked her to meet with the surgeon and anesthesiologist (whom I have never met) to get an explanation. The nurse did not hide her dissatisfaction with a casual attitude reflecting her total lack of understanding of my fear.To make a long story short, the doctors refused to meet me and my husband and I was taken to the operating room in a state of absolute distress.Dr Schuringa and the anesthesiologist put me asleep against my will and that was the beginning of the end for me. I woke up almost naked, my arms and shoulders removed from my blouse that was just placed on my chest. My husband witnessed this. After the surgery neither Doctor Schuringa nor the anesthesiologist came to see me, why?As it was a day surgery, I was able to go home and there I began to feel atrocious pelvic pain and a bit later I noticed that I was bleeding from a part of my body that I let guess, absolute horror!Following my symptoms I met several doctors, performed several medical tests that proved the presence of blood, met the S. Assault Centre, filed a complaint with the Police, solicited tests with the Forensic (tests that also proved the presence of blood and more) and filed a complaint with the College of physicians and surgeons. The verdict from the CPSO is in, the lack of my consent to the general anesthesia has been confirmed. The College did not explain the reasons for my symptoms or comment the fact that my husband witnessed that I was almost naked in the PACU.Since more than 2 years I am living in terror, I asked my family doctor not to be referred to a male doctor, I have nightmares, I can no longer sleep except covered up to my ears even if I die of heat and that, because I am afraid. At work, I only meet male staff in the presence of witnesses. I am now anxious and depressed punctually. In my tragic situation, I encountered silence or deliberate desire to hide my symptoms under the rugs, I encountered hospital’s staff that is very protected despite the evidence provided, I encountered indifference named professionalism, I encountered lack of respect for fundamental human rights…………I absolutely wanted to share my disastrous and inhuman experience in order to make the world aware of the reality of what is happening in this hospital. Please, please document yourself before entrusting your life to the staff of a hospital because you could come out of it devastated, dishonoured, humiliated without anyone moving a finger for you.I pay my taxes and did that stop me from going through what I am going through, so think about it, act before all you have left is your eyes to cry ! Choose to speak up or abuse of any kind will continue to be perpetrated with impunity !

I had a shattered wrist misdiagnosed by my family physician. Dr. Pete worked a small miracle and put all the pieces together in a very difficult 3 1/2 hour operation. He was awesome through the whole process.
