CARSA Climbing Centre

This is NOT a place for new climbers. I just wanted to give a friend an overview on ropes and clipping in (I'm certified to belay), WITHOUT either of us actually climbing, and a staff member was over instantly to tell me I couldn't help anyone learn. Even staying exclusively on the ground, I was told that any teaching was prohibited, unless you paid $60+ for a staff member to show you the exact same thing.Overall, there was an overly strict, anti-learning system, sure to keep away anyone who isn't already a pro climber. There is some bouldering, and a single auto-belay though, which is the saving grace.Look for better in Victoria.

Good routes but there are constantly group climbs that shut down the gym at certain times. I paid for a term membership and it seems like more often than not I show up and cannot use the wall.

All the employees are super friendly and helpful! Location for uvic students is awesome and super convenient. Climbing pass for uvic students is pretty cheap per term.

Decent climbing gym, very convenient for those on campus at UVIC and great value if you go there a lot.

Not well prepared. Late afternoon, they realized they did not have consent forms. Trying to print consent form but unable to find a working printer. We are sitting on the matts waiting for a half hour. Staff friendly but not overly stressed about resolving the issue quickly either. This is the second time we've encountered the no consent" issue. Not terribly impressed."

Used to be a decent gym but they seldom reset (1 panel every 3 weeks at best) or fill the wall with as many routes as they once did. Also the top rope wall is reset 1-2 times a year. Great for beginners and very casual climbers. Extremely affordable relative to other gyms.

Great gym with some fun routes!

I went there with a friend once and when we arrived their was three staff members just talking in a corner, making them hard to approach. When we got to their desk they wanted to belay test us, we let them. My friend and I were from out of town and our local gym uses ATCs for belay and when they were testing us and we asked if we had threaded the grigri correctly they acted hostile as if they were questioning we actually climbed (we not stupid we just making sure we safe). After about 5 minutes of climbing their routes. about 15 special needs kids clambered into the already remarkably small rock climbing centre". Like okay thanks for letting us know that more than half the routes were somehow reserved all of sudden
