Fogo Island Inn
A beautiful and unique inn that is very very remote. The hospitality is top notch, food is fantastic, the pastries were a huge highlight, and level of service and attention to detail made our stay perfect. There are so many surprises and delights here so I won’t ruin them here. Great if you are an architecture and design nerd who appreciates the juxtaposition between built and stunning nature. Definitely hike to each of the artist studios if you like contemporary architecture. We learned so much about the history and community here and even picked up some Newfoundland jargon. Get ready to find pleasure in small-town living and history and see how this inn has found itself rejuvenating/integrating into this fishing community. This Inn sets the precedent into integrated and sustainable tourism and should be how other tourism pockets should think about supporting their local communities while bringing in tourism and education.

The staff. They are amazing. From Sandra who greets you and makes sure everything goes perfectly, to the dining staff and kitchen. The creative chefs make something new and unique every day and the serversand bar staff are also outstanding and extremely friendly and accommodating. The Inn itself is a daring concept by Zita Cobb and a feat of architectural beauty. It is situated on rocky terrain with an unsurpassed panoramic view of the ocean. We’ve visited this spectacular Inn twice now and hope we can make it there one more time. Thanks to everyone, the front desk, the people who shuffle the cars, the housekeeping staff, and especially Zita who followed her dream and created not only this fabulous place but contributed so much to the community of Fogo Island.

If you are reading a review of the Fogo Island Inn, I am going to assume that you know the history of the Inn and the importance of Shorefast, the charity that Fogo Island Inn is a part of. If you do not know about the Inn - and the incredible vision Zita Cobb and the people of Fogo Island had (have) concerning not only the Inn, but the entire island, then I think you will be missing out on a lot if you visit here. The Inn itself is like nothing else on earth. The architecture, the rooms, the food, the PEOPLE make it a magical place to stay. Each room is different with views of the North Atlantic (and while we were there - of icebergs floating by) and most items in the room are made locally by the islanders. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, and well appointed. You are served 3 full gourmet meals (with multiple courses) each day in a gorgeous dining room and there is an extensive wine list as well as lovely cocktails. Not to mention, their coffee is out of this world. Oh and don't forget the pastry and coffee service that magically appears outside your door at 6am sharp.Touting its placement at the corner of the earth (so say the flat earthers) you feel like you are indeed on a corner of the earth - with terrain that resembles everything from Ireland to the moon. The many trails along the island are gorgeous from coastal hikes to wooded and mountainous hikes. You can hike, bike, sit by a fire and read, bird watch, or take a boat trip to Little Fogo Island. Getting up close and personal with icebergs and puffins! was a once in a lifetime experience for us - just otherworldly looking at these massive structures floating in the ocean. The Inn offers guided tours, an immersive tour around the island with a local, and lots of other special activities. The crab boil was a highlight (although we did think the host of the night took himself way too seriously). The only - and I do mean the only annoyance of ours was that this experience is - as they say on their website - an investment and it is that...so really, I just wanted to be served two glasses of wine with dinner without paying another $25 per glass. Just include a glass of wine (or 2!) with dinner! But I digress and swear I am not bitter. It is the people, though, that make this investment-this vacation- worth it all. The warmth of every single member of the staff - and of every single Fogo Islander we met - is real. It exudes from their faces and is genuine. You want to be friends with everyone there - and you want to be like everyone there; friendly, caring, joyful, and warm. You come home feeling like heading to corner of the earth was just what was needed.

Had a chance to tour the place. Excellent rooms, dinning room and facilities. Got to try the pastry deserts. (Because my daughter makes them)

Not only is the Inn an exceptional experience unlike any other but the place is a real community and the people will become friends. Above all, the Inn is a social enterprise with all proceeds reinvested in the community in a way that models a new economy for small places everywhere.

Definitely one of the best places I've ever been in Canada and world wide. The foundations commitment to making sure the culture and heritage of Fogo island is maintained is spectacular. Food staff and the amenities are all wonderful. Would highly recommend this all inclusive vacation, and this will definitely be on the top of my vacation list. They also have a great video on the creation inspiration and the owners humble approach to building this facility for the community on Fogo island and everything made in the Inn is all based from the island. Will definitely be back again in the summer!

This is definitely the nicest hotel I've stayed in and I've stayed in 5 star hotels in north America and Europe. The price seems high, but when you actually consider its more of a resort than simply a place to sleep it's actually fairly reasonable in my mind. It's the reason you come to Fogo Island as opposed to most hotels I've stayed in it's simply somewhere to sleep whole visiting a particular area. Staying here is a fusion of a nordic spa and a culinary experience. 3 meals a day are provided and are some of the most amazing food I've ever tasted easily on par with the best European restaurants I've been to. Between meals time is spent going for scenic walks on the island or enjoying amenities on site including sauna and hot tubs every night which are on top of the building and beautiful under the stars. The staff are amazing and while sometimes things felt a little unorthodox they are extremely friendly and do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable. They drove my rental car to the ferry the night before I left to make sure it was at the front of the line to get on the ferry as an example and then drove me to it the next morning. My girlfriend forgot something in the car and they drove an hour to get it without any issues. The service is truly second to none. Overall its probably my most enjoyable trip I've taken and would highly recommend it to anyone. The main criticism I hear is around pricing but as Ive mentioned I think it's actually very reasonably priced for the experience.

Heard about this architectural wonder and wanted to see it on my most recent visit before deciding to drop the couple thousand on a night for my upcoming honeymoon. Unfortunately, I was turned away at the driveway because I didn't have a reservation. It's very disappointing that such a site can exist but seemingly is not for any locals, only wealthy vacationers. That being said, the staff that turned me away was polite, but now I certainly will never book. The whole thing felt very elitist and completely against the values of this province and community. It was also disappointing seeing a dirt road all the way from the main road to the property. I would think with such a price, pavement would be standard.Really wish I had a reason to book a stay, but I encourage all Fogo visitors to find local accommodations that encourage culture and exploration
