Château Symmes Retirement Residence
Awful place. They are supposed to offer 3.5 hours of care per resident on the third floor. They offer none. They can ring, yell, ask nicely, no help comes. The attendants are always slouching in the dining room on their phones, ignoring the residents in the room around them.

My dad has been staying there for quite a while now. He has dementia and is very well taken care of. Staff on every level are just great, very responsive to my questions and my father's needs . I pop in for visits unannounced regularly and the food is always good and he has many staff members visiting his room to check on him or to remind him that it is time to go down to the dining room. Special thanks to Debbie Leduc who seems to always be keeping an eye out for him. :)

It is phenomenal the staff and employees are well first of all the receptionist are all young and lovely housekeepers are just as beautiful too and they work hard they will do anything within reason obviously but I found this place to be great. I practically don't even wantto move back to my own house my husband put me in here so I would not drink. I went through a bad time after I had to move to Canada. I'm an American and I really missed Colorado once I get my passport I'm out of here hello I will miss the people and I'm going to give them everything they don't get tips ever get bonuses nothing

My father lived there for 5 years. At the beginning, they were offering a wide selection of services free of charge, pool activities, they had wine with supper on Friday, the personnal was courteous. However, every year, they increased the rent by 2% and reduced the number of services. The pool was out of order for months, they started charging for every insignificant service they would offer (ex: charge 5 dollars to apply a band aid on a wound, 300$ to administer eye drops for 3 weeks, etc). The cleaning in the appartment was reduced to bare minimum, a quick mop on the floor and quick cleaning of the bathroom, so quick that my father ended up developping allergies and nasal issues because there was too much dust. I had to go clean his appartment myself to ensure a somwhat decent environment. There were flu and stomach flu epidemies yearly. When they occured, they would quarantine the residents to their Appartment and would bring the residents’ meals to their rooms. My father was in his room waiting for his meal. At 7 o’clock at night when he had not received his meal, he called the reception to see what was going on. He was told that the meals were served and that the kitchen was closed and that he had to wait for the next day to have some food. He was very upset and called me. Fortunately, i lived close by and could go pick him up. He ate at my place that night. When i called management, they were very impolite and could not understand that i was upset about what had happened. To me, it was completely unacceptable to leave a senior person without food. My father can’t hear very well. They didn’t even check if he was there or if something happend to him. They could have called or open the door. But no, nothing! He could have fallen in his appatment and be unable to answer the door. They just ignored him. Shortly after we have decided to move him out of there. It was clear to us that they are only interested to take the money from vulnerable people and don’t care at all for their wellbeing. He is living with us now and is doing well. He eats 3 times a day and have plenty of food available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. His appartment is clean all the time and he is cared for every day. Also, i recently called chateau Symmes to see if they had received any mail for him as i have learned that some mail was sent to his former address by mistake. When i called i asked if they had received mail for him and what they did with the mail they were receiving from former residents. I was told that they were returning it to the sender...this is not true as i had spoken to one of the senders and they told me they did not get anything back. Chateau Symmes probably threw away that mail, minimal efforts...they did not even call us to inform us that we ahd mail. If you care for the well being of your loved ones, don’t send them to Château Symmes. The only thing they care about is money.

I'm currently writing this review to raise awareness about the quality of life Chateau Symmes is offering its residents. My grandmother has been living there for 5+ years now. Here are my thoughts from her experience:STAFFINGThere seems to be a real shortage of English staff.. as in: They are non-existent at Chateau Symmes. The staff at the front desk may be bilingual but the staff actually caring for the residents are only French. So hopefully your loved one won't have anything important to tell the staff caring for them, such as: allergies, health issues or how they're feeling.Things like that; it can't be all that important. Who needs communication, right? My family has gone in on numerous occasions requesting that my grandmother only have English staff attend to her needs but I guess that'll never happen..PERSONAL CAREMy grandmother is in a wheelchair and requires assistance to go to the dining area for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff are aware because she has always been scheduled to be picked up but I cannot tell you the amount of times they have forgotten to get her for her meals..(P.S. having staff pick up your loved one for meals is an additional charge so even if you pay them for help, it may not even happen! You'll have to take a gamble and TRUST" them to do their job)I have witnessed the staff who care for her and I am generally concerned for my grandmother and leaving her in such careless hands. The way they speak her is unprofessional and disrespectful

We chose Chateau Symmes for my aunt’s care after visiting a number of residences in Gatineau. We were very impressed with the facilities, food quality and the staff. In particular, the nursing staff and technicians were very kind and provided our aunt with excellent care. If you are looking for a residence for someone you care about in Western Quebec, you should have Chateau Symmes on your list.

Chrystiane LalibertéDirectrice de santé et bien-être.I have been working at the residence for 4 years now, and I can assure you that every resident who lives in our building knows that they are served with respect, dignity, positivity and especially with love. I find it important that we give every single one of our residents the same level of care. My residents are like my grandparents (Even more, when they think I spend over 160 hours a month with them and my grandmother, I see her two or three times a year.) I know them all, 174 residents to share my daily life. I am responsible for their happiness and smiles, because even if the disease is present, a smile and attentive listening can cure all the small boils. It is an honour for me to work for you my residents at Château Symmes .... Thank you for filling my happiness! And for you future residents, welcome to our big family!Chrystiane LalibertéHealth and Wellness Director
