Tien Lung Taekwon-Do School

Our kids are currently enrolled in the Daily Dragon Program (same as last year) and also just finished the Summer Camp Program (South Location). Mr. Santos, Mr. Hansen and all of the instructors & staff are very professional. They have a true passion for their craft and it shows. They mirror the values we teach at home - our children have learned discipline, respect, accountability & most importantly self-defense which, in turn, has boosted their self-confidence. As parents, we love to celebrate in their achievements of receiving new stripes & belts. The Tien Lung bus picks up our children at their respective school which is not only convenient but gives us peace of mind. Our children LOVE the program and we highly recommend Tien Lung!

Tien Lung is an incredible family of highly respected and talented martial artists. Their commitment to the students and their training is unmatched. I received two black belts at this school and since moving away I have more than enough knowledge to train on my own. They've welcomed me back more than once for classes/seminars and I'll always feel at home with them. Fantastic people who raise fantastic black belts.

Joining Tien Lung was one the best decisions I have made not only for myself but also for my family. The great atmosphere and amazing instructors have us looking forward to each and every class. We have met many amazing people who have not just become friends, but are apart of our family!

Beware Tien Lung uses high pressure sales typical with big corporate gyms. You will be asked to sign a 3-4 year contact before you have a chance to try out the classes properly. It will not be what was promise! The kids program did seem good however they do not have a proper adult program. No matter what age you are you will be put in a class with all ages. 35 year old adults will be training with 7 year old kids. This means the adults will have to learn at the level of 7 year old and treated like your 7.

My sons started with Tien Lung (Southside) in October of 2013 as part of the daily dragons program. From the first day, they were hooked. They have been to 2 summer camps and have loved every day! Just under a year later, I joined and am now 8 months away from testing for my black belt. We have all since moved house and now attend the HQ location. My 13yo made it to junior black belt, after failing once. Yes, when you pass your black belt at this school, it's because you earn it (with constant support and encouragement from instructors, staff and other students). You work hard, commit and good things will come. He has decided to 'take a break' and I have had his membership transferred to mine, which I knew was an option when I read the contract. My youngest son has been chosen for the second year to be on the demo team. He was very nervous the night before try outs and I said Just be the best you can be" and he said "But I want to be the best". That is the attitude that is developed in one and all. I have enjoyed my time at Tien Lung. The Club offers great instruction that is course based and rotates through a set curriculum. The facilities are clean and up to date with a wide range of equipment that enhances the learning of a traditional martial art.I appreciate knowing what is expected of me to progress and that I do not get a pass" for merely showing up.I enrolled my son in Taekwon Do first and then decided it would be a good thing for us to do together. It was and is a good investment of time and money.I never felt pressure to sign up. I knew exactly what the cost of membership was and there were no hidden costs or fees.(testing

Tien Lung Taekwondo has an amazing martial arts program, incredibly fun camps and warmhearted instructors and staff. I have been going here since I was 7. I am 13 now and am still having a blast. Joining Tien Lung with change your life. It has given me so much confidence in everything I do. I have made tons of amazing friends and have met so many people. If you want to get your kids of the couch and doing physical activity during the summer or even on PD days, Tien Lung has the camps for you. Summer camps run through almost the entire summer. Your kids will be coming home with a new craft everyday and stories about their adventures to the movies, local park or Launch Pad. I highly recommend Tien Lung if you are wanting to get into martial arts or just want some physical exercise. I guarantee you will not be let down!

We have been at this club for four and a half years. The instructors are amazing, caring, and knowledgeable. Our child loves going and doesn't want to miss a class. They keep the kids engaged and encourage them to also do well in school and at home. We are so lucky to have such an amazing Taekwondo family.

I attended the defunct south side school for several years in my early teens, reaching the rank of blue belt before transferring to another TKD school that had a much more consumer-friendly business model.On the plus side, instructors are pretty high quality and most of them seem to genuinely care about their students. The facilities were always in tip-top shape and clean.On the negative side, their contracts can go on for multiple years and will force you to pay out if you decide to leave beforehand. My hope is that this part has changed since I left, but I doubt it.Also, there are some cult-like aspects to their organization that never dawned on me as a teenager. Namely, they force their students to recruit their friends and family into participating in their various events.Lastly, Tien Lung is affiliated with the International Taekwondo Federation, an organization based out of North Korea and not recognized by many other parts of the sport including the Olympics.There are a ton of reputable martial arts schools in Edmonton and frankly I can't think of much reason to settle with Tien Lung and their questionable corporate culture and business practices.

My son has been attending Tien Lung for about 5 years now. The instructors have always been amazing and dedicated individuals. We did experience some issues with specific management staff re: billing and general customer service a few years ago. Thankfully, they have recently changed over the management team with much more customer service-oriented, responsive and approachable individuals! This really aligns and supports the great work the frontline instructors are doing and shines a light on the high-quality instruction and leadership programs offerred at Tien Lung.
