Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary

Absolutely breathtaking. Such an abundance of wildlife right in the centre of Victoria.

We are definitely mid-life walkers, but I wouldn't say that we are dedicated hikers. We like a brisk stroll, enough hills and slopes to give your legs a little workout with a nice amount of downtime to enjoy nature and the fresh air. This is why we love to do the Christmas Hill Hike. We do this walk about 6 times a week for exercise and it never gets boring. It's not a heavy duty workout but we like to wrap around the top mountain a couple of times to get a little burn in the legs.Now this technically is part of the Christmas Hill Swan Lake Sanctuary, we suppose, but it's actually on the other side of Mackenzie Avenue and there is no Swan Lake here. It is a little mountain with groomed trails and rock stairs and a killer view at the top of the city that surrounds us.It is a great place to walk alone, as couples and even as a family for all ages. It is not wheelchair accessible as there are stairs and the paths are very narrow at some points, so persons with mobility issues should take note. Once at the top pull up a rock and settle in for some sunning and maybe read a book. It's really nice to have the payoff of sitting up top and

Nice walk in a protected bird sanctuary. There is self guided tour information available through a qr code website explaining more about the sanctuary. Eagle, heron , hawks, ducks , cormorant, owls....

Enjoyed a nice walk through this quiet, secluded, neighborhood nature sanctuary. The boardwalks and lake area was quite nice, but some of the paths were muddy due to recent rain. Easy enough wall for families of all ages.

Wonderful spot to go for a walk and see some birds. Lake loop trail is about 2.5km and mostly flat. Field house has washrooms and interpretive displays. Donations accepted.

Very clean and beautiful place, with lots of wildlife. The trails are easy to walk.

DO NOT go here without putting on mosquito repellent. They murder. But the views are beautiful and the varied terrain means that you'll see a lot of birds around the lake. And it's a short walk. 2.5 km. Enjoy.

Love going for walks in this area. All the greenery and the lake gives great views and the nature house is free to go in and learn about the surrounding area and it's birds and animals.
