Despite their reputation, I've found them to actually be helpful. They were willing to help advocate for me when I was experiencing human rights violations from my university, helped brainstorm ideas to get around medical discrimination in mental health services and has worked to find me autistic mentors in my field and for business. They frame autism as a disease model but at least they were willing to go to the bat for me when I needed help. Which honestly stings but is ignorable for their help to escape the autistic cycle of poverty. I'd rather that then other organizations who preach 'neurodiversity acceptance'/'anti oppressive' as cover for thinking autism people can't have full lives and ambition.

Just wish there was more help with adults with Autism. I find our government throws people away at 18. Awful.

Made claims that autistic advocates protesting against them in October of 2019 were using outdated information". When I contacted the director quoted in the Vancouver Sun for clarification

Autism speaks doesn't speak for autistic people. They lack any autistic board members, advocate for therapies that have been throughly discredited, and support ending" autism. The fact they have been able to maintain charitable status is shocking and concerning."

They are an ableist hate group who sees autism as evil and wants to 'cure' it. There is no cure, its a neurological disability. Autism will not take your child from you, its part of them as a whole. Please don't support them and don't let them see your kids autism as a demon. They use profits to make harmful, ableist ads, such as I am Autism" and "One time is a bad photo

Autism Speaks anywhere in the world is ableist towards the Autism Community and is toxic af. Autistics and they're families are lucky if they even get one percent of the profits that go towards them! The money being donated towards Autism Speaks (Canada AND US.) goes towards making ads/PSAs that do more harm than good (ex. I am Autism) and business luncheons! They don't care about helping others! They're HORRIBLE!!!! If you plan on supporting the Autism Community, donate LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE but Autism Speaks! St. Amant and Autism Self Advocacy Network are amazing places that actually care about and wanna help the Autism Community and help it thrive! I'm not lighting it up blue for Autism Speaks!

They perpetuate myths about autistics and their families. They claim that Autistics are not able to speak for themselves nor are we compétant enough to pick who represent us. Basically they are a scam to raise money and pay their executive director wealthy lifestyle..
