Old Country Sausage House
I had my wild game processed here last year and the price seemed very high. I dropped off 55lbs and the bill was $441.00. They calculate their price after they add the pork to the meat. I thought this was strange and this year I went back to my regular butcher and dropped off 42lbs for a bill of $235.00 for the same type meat. Garlic, pepperoni and smokies. Most places do not double dip by adding the pork to the price again. I also did not like the casing on both the garlic and smokies very tough and thick. I will say the Beer Buddies are great and worth the money. I feel like I was getting ripped off with the way they charge and will not be returning though.

The store is easily accessible by bus (HUGELY important to bus takers) right across from Allendale school. Friendly service and nice, clean shop. Their steak pies are amazing and I've just had two buns w/haggis in it. Their haggis is perfectly spiced, the kind that warms you up on a cool day. Mince pie was a bit dry but nothing that a good Bisto gravy couldn't remedy. Altogether a hit!

Had the scotch egg, tortiere, and sausage rolls. The scotch egg is a egg surrounded in meat and than wrapped in a breaded fry. Really tasty and really interesting with the different layers and texture. The tortierre is a minced pork pie and the sausage rolls is cumberland sausage. Both tasty, however I wish it was seasoned harder and had more salt for my taste (I run on the salty side).

Came in for some Chorizo and farmer’s sausage with only my credit card, and instead of holding on to the food while i ran to get cash, the owner gave me both items for free. Delicious food, place is ran by stand up people. The Tourtiere is my favourite.

Carry a lot of different sausages. Was having trouble finding merguez sausages but they had them. I have heard good thing about the scotch egg but you should reserve what you want as they sell out fast.

They have a great selection of meat pies and sausage that is made in house.Update: I went back on a different day and they have so much! So many kinds of meat pies, sausages, Cornish pasties, scotch eggs, haggis, sausage rolls etc. This is the best meat shop in the city without question. The staff/owner was also very patient and answered every question I had and legitimately seems like he loves his job and the community.

Awesome neighbourhood butcher.Highly recommend their garlic kubasa, scotch eggs, and meat pies - especially the steak stout pie.I'm just waiting on them to bring in dried sausages like landjäger. If you get a chance, worth a stop. Haggis at Robbie Burns is worth it too. Legit.

Now I know where to buy sausages that range from andouille, hot Italian, Chorizo, Bratwurst etc. And their speciality sausage is Allendale. Their sausage is really good and has great flavour like the hot Italian has that nice and subtle spicy kick not punch you in the face spicy. And the Allendale sausage is really good too. I can see why its highly recommended. Then they sell pies. Their pies is not bad and look like the typical English pies you find in UK. Steak and kidney pie is not bad as you can see kidney pieces compare to other pies where its hidden or you get small pieces of kidney just needs a bit of seasoning. Scottish Mince pie is not bad but kinda needs sauce; however, if that is how the pie supposed to be then I guess I need to add some HP sauce or worcestershire sauce to the pie.Melton Mowbray style pork pie was really good. Not sure how to eat it so I heated the pie in the toaster oven and it was really good. I want to get a piece of bread to mop up the juice.I look forward to trying Cornish pies, tortiere, chicken pot pie and shepard's pie. I will return to buy more sausages and pies.

You can find the best sausages and meat pies in town here. I have been going to Old Country for over 14 years. The original owner made great sausages but eventually sold the business. Luckily, now not only have the great original sausage recipes been kept, many new tasty recipes have been added. I specially like that there is a Allendale sausage (yes, named after the neighbourhood) because it is delicious and shows that this shop is proud of its neighbourhood. The haggis here is also something to experience as are the smoked meats. Great to see that this local family business has maintained the quality that earned it such a strong client loyalty.
