Restaurant Mi Barrio
This was probably one of the worst dining experiences we have had in a long long time. We arrived around 9pm and the place was pretty empty. The lady at the counter, who seems to be the cook, advised us in limited English & French that she only had seafood soup and seafood rice left. We were not offered a menu. Since we were in a rush and didn’t know the area well, coming from afar, we decided to have the seafood rice. We were asked about drinks and we asked for one glass of juice (they reconfirmed that it was only one glass). After some time we were served a small soup. It was odd since we ordered only the rice dish, but thought maybe it’s complimentary. Then we got 2 glasses of juice. One of the guys in the restaurant said something in Spanish and the waitress took away one glass. Then came out the rice dish, and, honestly, it was the least appealing paella-style dish I’ve seen. And it tasted like an overcooked and reheated week-old leftovers with too much salt. 90% of the mussels were empty shells and shrimp was rubber. It was beyond disappointing, and I hope authentic Peruvian food doesn’t really taste like that. Then it was time to pay. They then told us they only accepted cash or e-transfer. We don’t carry cash with us since the beginning of the pandemic, so agreed to pay by e-transfer. It took us 20 min to settle. They gave us the wrong email address, we had to cancel the payment and reissue another one. They wanted to charge us 17$ per that tiny soup that we didn’t order, and the total came to almost $80 for 2. That’s really steep for the quality of food you get and for such a tiny cafeteria-style restaurant. Or, maybe we got unlucky?!Only one extra star for the friendliness of the owner / cook and agreeing not to charge for the soup. They could benefit from attention to detail when taking orders, checking in with the customers during the meal, better quality / fresh ingredients and nicer ambiance.Wishing them best of luck in getting this place to the level of restaurants Montreal prides itself for.

Restaurant Mi Barrio
Friendly family style, but with the bright lights and the looped music and minimal setup, it felt like attending a birthday at a cafeteria. The salad is just iceberg lettuce and cucumber. The fries were somewhat moist. Fried chicken was good, though, if you like it very greasy. After ~27$ after tax & tip for one main and no drinks, I would just order the meat and make my own salad & fries at home...
