Attended the basic introductory class. Was everything I hoped for and more. James is an amazing and knowledgeable instructor and provided an amazing experience. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in learning the trade. I left hungry to learn more. 10/10

I spent one glorious day in October doing the introductory course. What a great way to spend a Sunday! James is a true gentleman and great teacher. There's something about pounding hot steel that makes you feel like a total badass. If you want to have a truly unique experience check this place out!

We've come out to visit Stone Wood and Steel twice now- once a few years ago for a lesson for my son and I, and more recently, for his 14th birthday - he had three friends come with him for the kid's lesson (four hours). James is a really fantastic, natural instructor whose enthusiasm for the art of forging is contagious! He gives his students a good intro and an overview of the general process and safety rules for beginners. He also gets to know the students and asks them what they want out of the lesson (also, what interests them about blacksmithing and/or if they have any experience, etc). He then takes them through the process of making a simple item; totally hands-on and immersive (the students soon learn that it's more difficult than it looks). This was a great activity for teens but I would highly recommend this for adults too- group team building, for example, or just for fun. A great experience all around!

It's a lot of fun, as well as awesome! James is a great teacher and a good person, he showed me the beginner course and I had loads of fun, I truly want to do some more of the courses.

A fabulous experience. My wife bought me the introduction to blacksmithing course. It was a packed day of creativity and skill learning. James is a knowledgeable, professional and courteous instructor. He imparts the skills and abilities to let you create and then lets you work. He's there for encouragement and guidance, but not to direct and govern. you have the flexibility to create.I was expecting a rigid syllabus, but you're free to work on a project of your chosing (within some guidelines).I'll definitely be back - with friends. First rate.
