The Wishing Star: Lapointe Developmental Clinic

I'm not sure if I can fully put in to words all my gratitude. Being connected here has been a life changing experience for myself and my children. We have been many other places over the years and the Wishing Star without a doubt goes over and above. As parents, It is really hard to go against some of our long time programming and work towards change for ourselves and our families, but being properly supported through these changes makes a world of difference. The Wishing Star is filled with heart and true caring. The admin team also has been exceptionally supportive and helpful for me navigating some challenges, which I really appreciate.Also, as a professional, I have been to workshops facilitated by people from The Wishing Star and they are always the workshops I walk away learning the most and feeling the most.It truly is more than just simply a clinic.... it is learning new ways, building a village / community, finding yourself and reconnecting with the little (or not so little) people that make us parents.Grateful in so many ways.

Unfortunately my experience has been so disappointing, it’s baffling. I paid over $3000 in August for an assessment for my child, the timeline back in August was 4-8 weeks to get the final results. It’s is now almost 8 weeks past the 8 week timeline. The only communication has been when I have inquired, no plan or new dates have been provided, management does not call back. All I get is “we will let you know when we know”. I have been respectful in any conversations with administrative staff, No one reaches out unless I do. I have told the office that this is holding up learning supports being put in at the school and specialist appointments, just to name a couple things. I have put in a detailed complaint with the Collage of Psychologists, just because…what else to do to get this addressed?? This isn’t okay with someone who is doing work on your house, never mind when it has to do with your child’s health.

We attended this clinic for a ADHD assessment. The communication from the administration was lacking with forms not arriving VIA email or showing on their end as filled out when they were. When counselling sessions were booked we unfortunately got the first date wrong and when the session was due to start virtually and we did not show no curtsy call was given. Because it was a virtual meeting and we could have easily made it had they given a quick phone call to see what had happened. We where billed the full amount and given no option for a makeup.***Our virtual appointment was at 4pm, the clinic did not close until 4:30, we were billed at 4:18. I understand the clinician may not be able to call from their home but why were they not able to call to the clinic and request reception to reach out to us? If that limitation is a result of in home virtual visits then that should shared with your clients before they agree to virtual meetings; that no calls can be made in the event you miss your appointment.These sessions at nearly $200/hr are very expensive for some families and would never be intentionally missed. The phone call upon no show is a common courtesy provided by most business's. It's very disappointing to see a place like Wishing Start, a place that is meant o help families that are struggling, families that might need extra support with appointment reminders not set theses families up for success.

The Wishing Star is essential place for mental and emotional health for all family members. Practitioners that we have worked with have been very helpful and are helping us to move forward from where we have been stuck". They are helping us to make positive difference in our lives

The Wishing Star & its people have been nothing short of a blessing for our family. I’m grateful to have been able to have had access to a wide variety of services: from counselling & numerous Psych-Ed assessments, to learning support for our kids & parenting information, support & inspo for me. It’s been fabulous to watch the clinic grow over the 10+ years that we’ve been clients. We’ve always felt seen, heard & valued. <3

The entire team at The Wishing Star are beyond wonderful. They are truly invested in helping families develop strategies and tools to move forward together as a loving, connected unit. Highly highly recommend.

After the service I received about my child, they asked for an extra fee for the tax form, and we paid it. Since our school psychologist wanted to meet with the clinic to be able to do the necessary studies, they demanded a fee again. The clinic should not charge an additional fee to inform the child's school once. This should also be included in the first price paid. I am not satisfied with this and do not recommend it because they charge additional fees for this critical issue.

The Wishing Star helped me understand my daughter more than any therapist has in the past several years of seeking professional guidance. Catalina supported me to see how my own childhood experiences were impacting my parenting and offered strategies to work with my daughter to manage her big feelings. My sessions with The Wishing Star has resulted in a more positive and supportive relationship with my daughter and relieved so many pressures I had on myself. Thank you doesn’t even come close to expressing my gratitude for my experience.

We had a great experience with The Wishing Star and can’t thank them enough for the kindness, support, and education they gave to us and our son. The staff and Dr Vanessa are so warm and welcoming, and the help we are now able to get and provide for our son is truly priceless. I would highly recommend The Wishing Star.

Over the past decade, all 4 of my children have had psychological educational assessments at The Wishing Star. The staff are lovely and go out of their way to accommodate my children’s needs. The assessments are incredibly thorough, with the written reports containing a plethora of ways to help my children succeed in their academic journeys. In fact, the schools have always been in awe when they receive these reports! I highly recommend The Wishing Star. Their services are invaluable. We will be back!!
