Southlake Residential Care Village

The care at this LTC place is less than good. At least on the floor where my sister was.The staff were overworked and always always too quick to attend to he needs of my sister.They need more help as the staff were not happy hence the care for my sister was at best POOR.No compassionno time to see what the real need was.No focus on emotional need of patient.I could count on one hand not using up all my fingers as to how many staff really cared for the residents.One staff member quoted as saying that the staffing issue was grim"WOW how does that make me feel having to leave my sister there every day.I will never recommend this Place to anyone.Please search out other care before choosing this one.Or try very very hard to keep loved one at home.I reluctantly give this place only one star.Dec 2021"

I would think twice before considering this place. Don't let its location be your deciding factor. The biggest problem starts with the Management and how the place is run. There is a complete lack of communication throughout and a lack of respect between frontline staff and management.Do your homework and ask questions.Southlake has a hard time attracting and retaining staff. Why??They always seem to have skeleton staff even before covid, and have to use outside agencies to fill staffing gaps. It seems as if Managements priorities are with their Board of Directors and not staff/residents. That's a whole other issue.Take a look around and make note of how many management personnel are walking around compared to how many nurses/psw are on the floors. Staff are not happy. Nurses were burnt out long before covid started.One of my biggest complaints is the cleanliness. From elevator walls that look like they were cleaned with a dirty rag to residents rooms that are rarely vacuumed or mopped. I rarely see any janitorial staff wiping down, disinfecting or working in general. Days have gone by with no janitorial staff on duty on my Dads floor.This is not what you want for your parents or loved ones.They deserve better!

I am only giving this place 2 stars. The residents have been in lockdown for over a year. If you put your parent in here, prepare not to be able to see them again unless you are a designated caregiver. Regarding the food, if you are diabetic, don’t expect them to accommodate your food restrictions. The place is always running on skeleton staff and agency people are brought in frequently. I could give lots more horrible details, but be aware. Have no idea how they got a decent ration. Shareholders are paid large from this place. As my family member is still there, this is all I will say for now. Be aware. All the pretty photos are deceiving. I have not seen my family member in more than a year as visitors are not allowed. Residents are not allowed to leave their rooms. No showers, no pedicures or hand and foot care. Residents are not even allowed out of their rooms. There are no activities for residents. My moms walker was put on the far end of her room. She got up to use bathroom and fell on floor breaking her pelvis. She was laying there over 2 hrs crying for help we know this cause we had a camera. Staff members going in and out without proper protection. My mom was taken to hospital by ambulance where she got Covid and thankfully survived. 7 weeks without any visitors. Upon her return they took our camera saying that if staff members were in her room having a private conversation we had no right to record ?

So sad see our seniors mistreated, abandoned, left in there rooms 24hrs a day 7 days a week. No house keeping, no care. Insufficient staff, lack of care and empathy is incredible. Even in these crazy times you still manage to make it worse!

I am the daughter of a resident at Southlake Village. I am thankful every day that my mother is there. Anyone that isn't happy with this facility should look at other longterm care facilities & their death racial. My mom is in the safest place she could be. If you have complains blame Doug Ford. The facility is short handed because of lack of PSW's available do to low wages in my opinion. I did that job for awhile & it was not easy. Walk in their shoes & you will get an entirely different perspective. BE GRATEFUL for what these people do every day. I bet you couldn't do that job even without dealing with the pandemic for any length of time.
