Tasty Kitchen

I want to give four stars instead of three because the quality of the food seemed excellent and the owner/chef was so sweet. But regarding the taste of the food - for me that was about a three or so. Unfortunately we really did not like the egg rolls at all. I understand that the meat paste inside them is a Halifax 'thing' but we did not enjoy the flavour or texture. Had the won ton soup - it was very good! Lots of veggies and the broth and wontons were good. Not a fan of shrimp in my soup but I appreciate the thought. We also had the Tasty Fried Noodles. Hubby loved them - but wasn't a fan of the shanghai noodles. If it said on the menu what kind of noodles, he would have ordered the Cantonese noodles instead. One thing that I have to mention was the bathroom was not clean at all - I am glad I saw it after eating rather than before or else it might have ruined my meal.

Needed a quick lunch while I was in Halifax for an appt. The Tasty Kitchen was in walking distance so off I go. A spartan little restaurant with 3 tables and some bar type seating. I completely missed the special board on the way in but that was my fault for not looking . The menu had plenty of choices and I ordered the Szechuan Pork on rice. It arrived within five minutes and was a generous helping. And it was delicious. Just what I needed on that day. Quite impressed for what seemed to be a one person operation, at least when I was there. I will be back.

My partner and I had been looking for a Chinese restaurant with lobster and Simon the owner was so kind to offer to cook lobsters for us if we brought them. Lobster is usually special order and he needs a few days to get the lobster. The green onion and ginger lobster was delicious. We also ordered Cantonese chow mein and the toppings of veggies and meat were so generous. We were so glad to find a restaurant that serves traditional Chinese food. The service was also fast and friendly. Simon shared with us a bit of his chef training and history of Chinese food in Halifax. Definitely our best Chinese food dining experience in Halifax.

As mentioned in earlier reviews, the chef Simon was very friendly, and the service was very quick, not to mention the food was delicious!I definitely recommend trying the Black Bean Beef!

Came in and was immediately greeted by the owner and chef Simon. He was so kind and friendly when taking our orders. Food was fantastic and cooked REALLY fast. 10/10 for his genuine customer service, you won’t find that in bigger restaurants

Best food on Dalhousie campus by far. Plenty of good options but I recommend the black pepper beef (if you don't mind mushrooms) or the curry chicken.

A simple Chinese-canadian diner run by one personable guy that serves up great food. We really enjoyed the two person dinner. So plentiful, so Tasty!

Owners were very welcoming and incredibly kind to me. The food was spectacular, really above and beyond with fresh ingredients and great spices. This place is a must try!!

Happy to have come across this restaurant. The food was exceptionally delicious. The dishes full of fresh ingredients, rich in flavour, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. It was a pleasure to meet the chef, Simon, as well. He was so friendly and I simply appreciate his passion for cooking good food and having people enjoy it. I will definitely return and recommend others to go when they come to Halifax.

Nice place for a quick bite, owner is friendly and helpful. Very tasty Chinese food.
