Joe's first name was actually Seraphim,after the celestial angel. It was fate that Joe would dedicate a good portion of his career as a lifeguard at English Bay Beach.Joe saved countless lives and was a prominent and upstanding figure in Vancouver. A memorial fountain dedicated to a living angel was sculptured by artist Charles Marega, unveiled in 1927 and located in Alexandra Park.
