This restaurant is an unexpected beacon on the west coast. We wandered around to Java the Hut after coming off Tatchu Peninsula. The fresh fish and chips was good, the salad great but the real star was the cappuccino. I dare say the trip to Kyuquot is well-worth the trip but the family-style dinner might be a destination in and of itself.

Good food, great people, and strong local ownership.After paddling into Java the Hut after 5 days of paddling for a warm meal the food delivered.As we were eating we noticed that this place is sort of like the Cheers of Kyuquot. Everyone knows everyone, people are swapping stories and you truly get a sense of what a tight knit community this is.Eric the owner is the star of the show. He came by and spent about 20 minutes chatting with us and getting to know what we were all about while lacing in some local knowledge that helped to make the back half of our trip that much better.Great place to stop.

Great fries, burgers and falafel, but best of all, a great place to sit and watch the comings and goings in the busy harbour. The owner is a great source of local information.
