As an Executive Human Resources professional, I have successfully utilized Career Joy over many years to assist with employee transitioning and redeployment strategies. Recently I found myself in need of their services, and I was matched with a coach, Stephen Williams. Stephen an accomplished professional coach, with an extensive HR background, quickly understood me and my needs and was willing to amend the program to suit my specific goals. Stephen is a great listener, who asked intuitive questions to make me think and weigh all of my options. He took a collaborative approach, and I valued his input, helping me gain confidence in my next steps. We utilized some of the tools available in their program; competency assessment, and resume writing tools, which were very helpful. I met my coach, Karen Haas, 6 months ago when I lost my job. Having never found myself jobless in my 15 year career, I was feeling at a loss as to next steps in the middle of the COVID pandemic. Going through an unplanned career change can be extremely unnerving and downright scary especially when in you're in your fifties. However, as a part of this transition I was afforded the opportunity to work with Career Joy to assist in my transition. I was specifically assigned to a gentleman Stephen Williams. I met with Stephen once a week for six weeks. Not knowing what to expect I was a little apprehensive.What I liked most about Stephen is that he himself has been through a downsizing a couple times in his career. He really seemed to be able to relate to the way I was feeling, and he truly understood the anxieties that I was experiencing. He took the time to listen to my situation and really took the time to get to know me and my background. Stephen came to each meeting prepared to discuss me, my issues, and my potential opportunities. He made several excellent suggestions that would help showcase myself and my experience. Ways to improve my LinkedIn profile and better ways to present myself.Bottom line Stephen was a fantastic coach. He is a true professional and he genuinely seemed interested in assisting me. I have taken a lot of what Stephen has recommended and applied that to my current job search.I also found the professional resume writer a huge assistance. My personal resume writer was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and flexible. The process was extremely collaborative and timely. My Writer provided me a finished resume and cover letter in quick period.

Due to a merger at the not-for-profit I had worked at for nearly 5 years, I found myself without a job. It took a few months for me to decompress and recover before considering Career Joy. I had been doubtful of the Career Joy program, as I have been working in HR for several years and was skeptical on being presented with any new and/or insightful information. Was I WRONG! I reluctantly connected with Career Joy and quickly realized the value of the program and those who devote themselves to helping individuals toward a new role and/or career.I was given great advice and instruction on my resume, cover letter [thank you Jaime-Lee!] and how to best present myself at an interview. My conversations with Sarah W. were insightful! Our discussions primarily surrounded the results of my Highland Abilities Scores, job market trends, interviews, the changing corporate culture and key components of locating the best-fit role toward success. Just prior to my last session with Sarah, I landed a new part-time role with a not-for-profit organisation in support of the local Indigenous Community. I couldn't have asked for a more fulfilling role. I'm so glad I took the opportunity with Career Joy as I received valuable insights about myself and clear directives toward seeking the 'best-fit' for my personality and qualifications. I must say I was very skeptical at first accessing this service set up by my ex employer. But after I did access the services my skepticism turned to (realism and optimism). The counsellor was honest, open and empathetic with me and the services I required. They opened my eyes to look at who I was as a person and to use the skills and knowledge to obtain a job in such a short time. I think they helped enhance my rational thinking and problem solving skills and tackle the hard questions that potential employers ask during interviewing stages. I am thankful for the services and how they enhanced my resume so I can use it in any situation during my job search journey. Very thankful for the counseling and assessment tools used. I’m now ready and energized to pursue better jobs with the preparation Skills I was provided.
