Gower Guest House
Great B&B for the price. Downtown location is very convenient and walking distance to lots of places to eat and drink. Free parking out back can be a pain in the winter but is nice to have. Rooms were a simple, but lots of character in the home. Hosts were very nice as well.

Good place to stay. Quiet, centrally located and very friendly people. There was a guest fridge which was great for keeping some snacks. Comfortable room with everything one needs for a nice stay.

Complaint: messaged, phoned, online chat, and booking company could not reach the primary contact. Two email addresses, one phone number. 5 days before, 2 days before, day of.Once at property, our room provided a contact number for a service contact, and they replied quickly, promptly and were very helpful.Stayed in room 5. Bathroom installed as an afterthought. Less than 4x4 tiles in size.Great view of st. John's. Shower mat had bleach stains. Room Fridge didn't work.Approach property from the NE/SW street instead of the hilly SE/NW Street for maximum enjoyment

Booked a room here prior to pandemic and had to cancel due to travel restrictions. The hotel refused to give refund, only a credit voucher. However, the voucher expired end of 2021 with all restrictions including the ‘Atlantic bubble’ and our travel limitations we were not able to travel until May 2022 (5 months after the credit voucher expired). Contacted the hotel, they refused to issue a credit on another stay. We are now out $275. I understand that businesses had tough time during the pandemic but so did travellers that lost money.

Clean room and good location. We had the loft room - tiny room, tiny bath and shower, (virtually nowhere for two suitcases) and we couldn't open any windows - no screens, one handle broken. Since it was blistering hot we had to have the noisy window A/C on continuously, despite the fact that it had cooled down nicely outside. Breakfast was dull and basic. Internet annoyingly slow. Convenient to check in on your own time schedule. Parking at back was handy.

I had made a reservation at this location a full 6 months ahead. I had a non refundable reservation for June 2020 when everything was shut down by Covid-19 travel restrictions and border closures. It was illegal for them to house me as a tourist from Ontario. Regardless, they billed the full amount for my reservation. Totally dishonest and unethical. They claimed they were legally open. True- but not to tourists from out of Atlantic provinces.

These guys charged me $160 on my CC 12 days after my actual reservation" and i never even stayed there. The guy on the phone told me when i was in toronto that he was having trouble with the power and to call him back. He also told me he didn't get a reservation from the aircanada site. Since i got held up in TO because of weather i didn't need to stay there. I just called to get a refund and they gave me the run around. Crooks."

I had a lovely stay!!! Very clean and accommodating, with light breakfast options available + fridge and microwave downstairs. Great location too in the heart of downtown St. John’s.
