Cégep Heritage College

I've been attending this college for 3 years as a science student, and I'm now on my last semester. All the teachers I had knew their material very well, but I would say only about 2/3 them were good at conveying information efficiently, at least to me.I'm rating this college this low because I after years of being there, I felt that the textbooks explained much better than many of the professors did, and it got me thinking about how I could have used the time I spent in class to learn more from the textbooks, as I can easily learn more without getting distracted by talking when note taking. Then again, that also depends on who teaches and the method used to teach that material, and luck determines that since you won't always have a good professor for how they all vary. The worst experience I had was with one of my professors from my philosophy courses: He would verbally say what to memorize for a test, and instead write on the board what was much less relevant.Another aspect that bothered me a lot was how jumbled up some of the courses were on our weekly schedules, enough that it feels like we are juggling between different courses rather than being systematic by focusing on one at a time for a more coherent learning experience. I noticed that classes of the same subject that tend to follow up one another within two days tend to be easier to follow compared to those that are too far apart within the week.All in all, when a class clicks"

I loved Heritage College. I went from 1989-1992 and was in the ECCE program.I can't say enough good things about the ECCE program.

Small and multicultural. The teachers are caring and available. I studied both Social Sciences and Science there and both were awesome. The overall atmosphere is pleasant and sometimes people sing in the agora.

Student services aren’t there when we need them to help us. Clearly the administration team of this college isn’t qualified or isn’t simply willing to accompdate you when travelling or even to re do an exam that you missed for good reasons. They are the ones that should be there to help students with their experience in that school and their academic results. My experience with that school was very bad compared to the help that others schools could and were willing to provide.

Did the nursing program, no complaints and way more affordable than in Ontario. Felt a bit like being back in high school, although the smaller class sizes (compared to university auditoriums) make it much easier to get to know others and your teachers (if that's something you want).

I have attended a short beekeeping course at the college. Nice facility and well maintained.The course and the teacher (Bob Valcov) were great. Good mix of information with some practical setting. There is a big difference when someone cares about the subject. It exceeded my expectations.The process of registering wasn't the easiest. I could also have been notified about parking arrangements much earlier than a day before (parking is free after 6pm).

Some teachers are genuine and really supportive. But some other ones are emotionally detached and don't care about you or how you succeed. They only want to get through the day. In addition, student services employees who are supposed to be there to help you, really don't seem to want to. They always gave me the cold-shoulder when I had to submit a paper or if I had a question. Most of the students at this school are indifferent and they don't want to establish a new friendship, since they already have so many from the high school they graduated from and now go to Heritage with. If you want an experience that is different from high school, then don't come here. The english cegeps also get neglected when it comes to provincial funding, because they don't want us here.

I had a horrible experience in the computer science program. One teacher in particular was emotionally abusive, refused to give any marks out before end of semester exams, and didn't follow course outlines. Furthermore, the course materials produced by this teacher were usually copy-pasted from internet sources and didn't meet the program's own standards.Students complained about this teacher multiple times but school administration right up to the Dean failed to take meaningful action to correct his unacceptable performance. As this teacher is responsible for several critical courses for this program I would not recommend serious students consider Heritage College for a Computer Science diploma.
