Gartside Marine Engines

Excellent service received. I had both outboards serviced offsite by Gartside (Oak Bay). Technician, Tyler, arrived with all spare parts that might be needed, but only installed those that were necessary. He captured all used fluids (no spills) and left the boat and site clean. Tyler provided useful operating tips while servicing the engines and the service manager, Charles, followed up by phone afterwards.

FIRST CLASS SERVICE!!!In the marine industry, it’s often hard to find reputable service outlets. Many of my friends highly recommended Gartside Marine in Oak Bay. I initially dealt with Kelly in parts and not only did she find the parts I required at a reasonable price, she recommended alternatives to the Volvo parts that would substitute for a fraction of the cost. They worked with me to help save a bit of money on a service call at my marina in Esquimalt too. My first experiences felt they were not out to soak me.Then, before cruising around the island this year, I required some service on my engine. Kelly immediately secured me a spot on their work dock within my schedule (to be honest, I was lucky it was available). I initially met Charles, the owner when tying up. He walked me into Oak Bay Marina’s office and had us set up to be at their work dock. As Charles was going to be away on vacation, his son Tyler took over from here. Previously Tyler had helped me in Esquimalt and I echo another reviewers sentiments that he was more than knowledgeable and quick to offer helpful, cost saving maintenance tips. This time, he performed all the maintenance on our 1984 Volvo with the help of Jordon (hope I got that name right). I was treated incredibly fair, the work performed was outstanding, when the bill arrived it was actually a bit lower than what I feared I would have to pay! Thank you Gartside team!!! Ben and his staff were amazing. I purchased and installed a beta 25. Even after the purchase Ben was gracious and helpful. As a DIY person I could not have pick a better place to spend my money.

Left the batteries dead after servicing and then sent a bill for $30 when asked why the batteries were dead. Boat did not pass survey two months after servicing. They did not alert us to any of the problems the survey found. Overall an awful experience.

Over priced for rebuilding a salt water pump.change a water seal and repaint pump for $386.00I supplied some parts .2.5 hrs to take apart paint .don’t think so.next time I will go back to Ben in Sidney as I know he does quality work.
