Abundance Fenced by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas

Two stylized Haida whales chase after pacific northwest salmon while the heavy truck traffic of Knight Street passes by. The contemporary indigenous formline stretches over forty meters and is fabricated from steel. Located on the corner of Knight and 33rd in Kensington Park.Micheal Yahgulanaas is a multi dimensional artist with many publications,books of cartoon illustrations,paintings,classical Haida carvings,sculptures and a hybrid of Haida/Asian art called Haida Manga. Micheal is a public speaker, environmental activist and was elected Chief Councillor of the Old Masset village.Micheal grew up on Haida Gwaii and desends from a pedigree of artists.He apprenticed under Robert Davidson and master Haida carver James Hart in the classical Haida form. Micheal would go on to be influenced by Cai Ben Kwan in the Chinese Brush techniques. This would inspire a new direction in the form of Haida Manga. From solo to group exhibitions,Micheals art has been appreciated all over the globe.
