York University - School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design

Currently part of the Cinema and Media Arts department and I am in my third year for Cinema and Media Studies. The film department is outdated. They teach you film history, which is important, but it has no context the new film culture and industry. How do you expect a film student to apply the old primitive thinking to the new contemporary modern cinema. This department needs to have new profs. The current CMS profs are very monotonic and don't know how the film industry has changed ever since they left college/university. I was in a four years film studies program but due to the way the program is taught, I switched to a three year program. Also, if you have any questions about film and you try to call the film department, they will hardly ever pick up the phone. I have left several voicemails and sent several emails but I have gotten zero response. Overall, the film department at York University, or as they like to call it Cinema and Media Arts" department needs to change and progress more. This program is very outdated and if you wish to make films (Film Production) or study film history (Cinema and Media Studies) then you are better off going to a different school that will teach you things you will and can apply to your filmmaking skills."

A school just for admissions and money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Many processes are worth improving, like the level of employee engagement, and many students actually have strong goals, but the school's teaching level is worrying and opportunities are too few. I plan to transfer here in September this year for my future career, but, after a few months of communication and the course selection process, I think they are really average, and the courses are very theoretical so I might change to another school, and York wast my time and money. I am considering other schools.

York has its problems, but AMPD is a haven within the larger institution. The community is tightknit like a family, and to this day I get excited when I run into fellow alums in the professional world. There's a special bond we share. I've made lifelong friends and connections from this school and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
