Markham Stouffville Hospital Emergency Room

What a hot mess, this is coming from a healthcare worker. Came here on Sunday (02/12/2023) night. Where do I begin.. the nurse didn’t know the proper procedures the start an IV. The nurse forgot to remove the tourniquet after getting flashback and was becoming flustered when blood wasn’t being drawn and told the patient it was their fault. Just a heads up to the ER nurses, patients don’t need to hear you babble on about Rihanna and the Superbowl, let’s keep it professional. Next, the x-ray tech was screaming at a family then proceeded to threaten them by saying “I will turn you away if your child moves, this is your responsibility”, pretty sure that’s illegal and against his scope of practice, would cost him his licence. What on earth is happening in this hospital.

Markham stouffville hospital has taken care of our family like no other .. our younger daughter has been born here..and we had the best experience we possibly can .Very clean place and helpful nurses and doctors... kudos to the nurse ...they deserve hell more ..lot of parking spots..

Absolutely slowest Emergency department that i have ever experienced. It's true, if you think your dying or about to die don't go here! When all was said & done we waited approximately 8 hrs! What really bothered me was at 2:00 am we encountered the rudest staff(nurse) on a shift change (May 2nd, 2023)I'm still going to report her once i find her name. There definitely needs to be a manager to oversee the staff who act like Tyrants. This lady was on such a power trip & was treating everyone including the elderly with so much disrespect. So unprofessional but i will make sure she understands!

Today I had the worst experience at this hospital Emergency Dept. I was seeking help in regards to a medical issue and the Doctor who saw me was not able to diagnose the problem . He did not spend the time to ask me questions for a proper diagnosis instead he came up with a very quick diagnosis on his own. He then referred me to a nurse for blood work that kept me waiting for a long time. At around 10pm I mentioned to her that I feel tired as I have not rested since I left home at 6am today. So instead of helping me she answered me in a very rude challenging tone of voice saying don't tell me you are tired" .A nurse should never be talking to a patient in such a manner. Then at that point that same Doctor came asking me in a very challenging tone of voice saying "what seems to be the problem" when I explained to him what happened from that nurse

My grandma was in a lot of pain to the point where she couldn’t walk or move on her own well. Took around 6 hours to even figure out what was happening to her and even longer to get her out of the waiting area and into an actual room. Nurses were rude, had attitude, and it seems like they don’t even care most of the time. When my grandma finally got into a room I asked if there was anything for her to eat as she didn’t have anything to eat all day because we had to wait the whole day for her to even get into a room the nurses simply said I had to get something for her even when it was after visitor hours and were kicking me out of the hospital. She didn’t even get any water. Staff need to take care of their patients better and the wait is so unbearable. Don’t come here unless you are dying.

Terrible rude staff i was on a streacher passing in n out. They told me i had to go in the waiting room. I couldnt pick my card as i was totally weak they told me my card were not there. I found them when i got back home. I thought it was racism at first but it just a total mess. I never receive any threament even if called and ambulance. I felt on the floor they told me to stop flopping around. I was able to go back to my hotel cause of the adrenaline and the fact that i was mad. Came back had the same problem before people from the hotel help me.RANDOM PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT PAID TO TREAT PEOPLE did this for free.They literaly hid my hospital card to not help me. The paramedic had to check before.Dont go there if you dont want to be left to die.

My daughter was complaining of stomach ache, so we picked her from the school and took her to the emergency department.Not only the department is rude, they lack empathy and don't know anything as to what was happening!My daughter had lunch at 1pm at school and because of their laziness they kept her starving for the next 6 hours.If the emergency department or the doctor couldn't free a patient even after 5 hours, not sure what they are really smoking! Pathetic service with lack of compassion and empathy! Simply pathetic!You don't even deserve a single star!

I was assisted by Dr. Antflick at the Emergency Room whom I am so thankful and grateful for. Even though the outcome was traumatizing, he was professional, knowledgable and genuinely caring. Thank you.The nurses work hard, they are understaffed here so please be patient with them and be kind to them, they're trying their best.From previous experiences, yes you should expect a wait but they are definitely here to help. I'd say expect at least a 3 hour wait so bring all your necessities.

the only ER, that i know of, that lists ER waiting time on their website - which, with the amazing health system we have these days, comes in very handy! but most importantly, they have many (not all but many) good doctors, who do care about their patients and understands importance of what they do.i know how frustrating and SCARED our medical system is now - i do live in ontario after all. but in my opinion, in this hospital, most healthcare providers do their best to take care of us, and with all the crazy that fall on their heads in the past few years, they still find a minute to hear you out, sympathize, and sincerely help. try to put yourself in their shoes; it’s not nurses and doctors fault that they are understaffed.

Just visit the MSH ER after bike ride fall few days back. The pain gets worse and spreading. Health professionals are caring and Doctor diagnoses it be a rib crack and should recover in 6 weeks time with pain subsiding bit by bit. Prescribe a week medicine. All takes 2 hours. Sustaining such quality service is quite a strain on the people and system. Anyway hold on, you are good!
