Silver Dollar Room
Great venue, often hosting many of the smaller bands visiting Toronto. Friendly staff, great location, good sound. Small venue though, so don't go late if you really like the band that is playing.

Fun dive bar vibe. Good visibility for the stage. Typically louder than it needs to be, so bring earplugs if you're seeing a show.

This is a quintessential rock club. Dark, loud, staff that is friendly-ish, no base audience to speak of. Still, it is a decent sound system (the stage has a weird frequency response when you are playing.), decent place to see interesting acts, good place to cut your teeth and maybe even move some product as a band. Don't be put off by the mission next door or the waverly hotel (rents rooms by the hour) on the other side. That's rock and roll, babies, at it's grittiest!

An institution. A little dive but a perfect place to get intimate with bands a couple of feet in front of you. The table right next to the stage is an amazing place to watch guitar solos. Easy to get to by streetcar.

Great rock club. Sketchy neighbors on either side but that's okay. Can see some great bands here and good patio at the back. Can't smoke out there anymore so it's not used much.

One of the best live music venues in Canada. Go. While you still can. It's unfortunately slated to close.
