As someone who used to be a part of this organization let me say that the facilities, inside and out, are disgusting. I have found cockroaches (several times) in the kitchen, the food health and safety standards are minimally met, cooking equipment are almost never cleaned properly, and some of the staff there are just straight up insufferable (I’m talking paid higher ups and not volunteers). I’ve known several people that have left the organization because they are expected to take on responsibilities that surpass those of an actual paid job. Moreover, the homeless clientele are some of the most ungratefull and meanest people I have ever met. Never a smile on their face, never a single thank you for the FREE food three times a day. I understand Ottawa has an homelessness issue, but they are honestly some of the worst people I have ever encountered, mental health issues or not. Most of the patrons of Sheps do not deserve the generosity provided to them by the staff there. It is sad because I know that several of the people that work/volunteer at Sheps are decent people. I also know that the shelter is almost always at capacity and that they are not equipped to handle such a large amount of people.I will never have anything to do with Sheps and it’s patrons ever again. It brings me great joy to never have to walk into that building of Murray st. ever again.

While I was a member of the Ottawa Police Force I took many people on the street to the Shepherds of Good Hope always they came back to me that they taking care and the staff ,the food and the bedding had been the best place to be while getting on their feet.Anyone how write a review not to be well treated or the food is not good I will tell you; You should spent one night working as a volunteer at that place and see what you can do better. To the personnel God Bless You for what you are doing you cannot do more to those who always see things different because they do not know any better .

2weeks ago I wrote a review about customer service, well that day I placed an order to be delivered to my home. I was told I should receive it within the week, as I mentioned I was flying out of town December 16… “no problem”…..well it was delivered to my home today December 21st. No one is home until January 6th! I will definitely be returning this item and after which I will never step foot in Shepherds.

People here care, they really do. Cannot say same of other shelters sadly...SOGH is leading the fight against homelessness and so much more Shep's rules!

People should be aware of the trouble that this place echoes. Authorities should have cleaned this up ages ago. They need to move out of the city center, take the rest with you too, Mission, salvation army etc......

Friendly staff doind a big part in the community thank God the are places like the homeless shelters in Ottawa providing a place to live for us that have nothing or a home to go to if you see someone on the street asking for some change to spare help them if you can it brings positivey who has been through some really difficult times kindness gose along way. You never when you could end up homeless. No one wants to be homeless and some have no choice. We all need each other and care for one another and for the people who has helped me with a little bit of change thank you for what you did it means a lot because I've helped out people in need to and to the amazing staff your awesome thank you for giving me a place to stay god bless all the kind people who gives a little it truly dose mean a lot.
