It is obvious that nobody from Gateway ever reads these comments...because if they did they would feel embarrassed or ashamed of the shelter and try to do better.I know it is difficult trying to please everyone but with a little humility things can be accomplished. For the most part you see a good mixture of alcoholics, drug addicts , and wierdos who use this place in order not to pay rent. The staff don't really help you at all other than give you your three meals. If you ask for some info in the reception most of the time they don't know about anything or give you a vague answer with a sarcastic attitude.Gateway needs to take a more positive interest in the management of the shelter.

This is a wondrous place for those in need. For those wanting to visit it is a great place to get more information about what they do and if you go on a city walk you can get a lot of cool and enlightening information on the area. They also have neat and clean rooms for informative talks on what they do and how they do it. They are christian oriented which is very encouraging because some shelters don’t always do that, they are considered the best men’s homeless shelter in the city of toronto. They have clean bathrooms and a clean facility. The staff are incredibly dedicated, friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable people who love to spread the love of God to the world around them. Definitely donate to this location if that is what you are here for.In reference to what this organization does, they help men who need a place to stay, they assist them in getting off the streets. They are usually packed full like many other shelters in the area are. They strive to be respectful of everyone around them in the area and are aware of the attitudes and mindsets of those watching. This is a great ministry and a fantastic organization to support, work with and share in.

The place is ok and controlled fairly well.. Some of the people who work in the reception can be condensending and beligerent at times especially the older staff... I stayed there 2 years ago and they never really helped me that much.. The Manager Allen i believe his name is was never there so there were no back up managers or supervisors to help you...The person who worked in the housing department did not offer much help either....Best option is to get a bed and a locker and once you are established there go to the welfare office and ask for help...The biggest problem i think is viruses floating around and the ocassional theft ,,but for shelter standards Gateway is one of the best

They are amazing people who really care and give the utmost support that is needed in a community. Without them I would never have had the thought about trying again. And there I am trying and succeeding slowly but surely. Thanks to all!

Not a very pleasant place. With the exception of maybe 4 staff, the rest are rude, disrespectful and just plain ignorant. If your a raging alcoholic looking for a place to crash rent free so you have more money to devote to being a great alcoholic, this is the place for you.If you prefer to not shower EVER,this is also the place for you. Those who get drunk and beligerant to others as well as those who stink as if they haven't showered in months are top priority.Basically put this place is all about filling 120 beds every night and getting paid for doing it.Downstairs washrooms are disgusting, drop in is always filthy except for a short period after the male cleaner does a cleaning once per day. This shelter is not where you want to go if looking for help with housing either. The so called worker trolls on kijiji and view it,prints off a few pages and hangs them on a wall.Apparently doesn't read them as a unit available for only two months doesn't help anyone yet he posted it.If you enjoy tv from 6 a.m. until 1 or 2 a.m.,this is also the place for you.The best is the elevator that has been out of service for 15 weeks now and no end in sight to that drama.Time the city of Toronto quit funding this place.

Currently allows drug use on premises including injectable narcotics as well as people 'high' on any drug to stay. Several deaths and much violence. Cannot recommend until this is remedied. Check local police and ambulance reports. Most deaths occur at nearby St. Micheals Hospital with the most recent dying on site not responding to CPR. No Naloxone used reportedly. Most violence police arent called.Strongly not recommended.

Breakfast was exemplary this fine morning, the smiles exhibited by our soon to be newlyweds Rocky and Alice, left us with a will to soldier forward.
