Outstanding gym. Clean, friendly people, and has a wide range of training equipment. The training is very affordable. My son has gained a lot of confidence practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai under Shawna and Jeerowel. The instructors are very dedicated to the martial arts, and very patient with the kids; I have ever heard the instructors lose their tempers. They control the class by being role models that the kids respect. Since I began training BJJ at Brave, I noticed the atmosphere of the gym is one of respect for each other first and foremost - egos are left at the door. Higher belts often give me helping rolls" to develop my skill. The message I have received is that we are brothers and sisters in training whose goal is to learn together. Coach Rodrigo reminds us that rivalries are to be avoided. Students learn quickly under coach Rodrigo

The best BJJ facility in Ottawa with a world class instructor Professor Rodrigo. Professor Rodrigo is a martial artist who takes pride in all of his students success. I have trained at several different marital arts gyms and hands down Profession Rodrigo is the best instructor I am ever had.

Brave MAI offers a clean, modern facility and world-class training. Rodrigo is on the mat almost all the time, offering advice and training with everyone. The overall atmosphere is positive and focused on technique. No hard selling, no special" memberships

I started with Brave approx 3 years ago and now am back after 2 years off training. I knew I had to get back to training and there was absolutely no question in my mind that I was going back to Brave and head instructor Rodrigo.The gym is beautiful, clean, has all the facilities and all the instructors are top tierIf you're looking to join a community that is extremely welcoming as well as talented, this is the place to be!

Started BJJ back up again after 10+ years off and very happy with Rodrigo's teaching methods! Explains everything step by step and very clearly. All ego's are left at the door when we roll and it's nice that you can roll hard or easy, but not one is trying to injure you. Very clean gym and bathrooms.Can't recommend this place enough!

Coming from years studying karate and then traditional jujitsu... when I was looking for a new place to take me on my next journey in the martial arts I was immediately welcomed by the staff and other students alike.Really great vibe this place friendly camaraderie between all of the students. Great energy and you can sense that everyone has a great attitude and wants to work hard.A great mix of people from all backgrounds enjoying the training put on by amazing instructors (Rodrigo, Kru Mel, Bak, Shawna). They made me feel at home right away and I am excited to train there and continue on for the next phase of my martial arts passion.I recommend that place if you’re into BBJ, MMA or kickboxing !

I have been training Muay Thai at Brave for a little over a year now and it’s been one of the most rewarding workout experiences I’ve ever done. They work at your level and customize the class to challenge and encourage you to exceed your goals. If you’re new to martial arts or a master, Brave works with you to bring out your best! The gym is very nice, has new equipment, a huge mat space, and is always very clean. Definitely an elite MMA gym. Perfect environment for training and I highly recommend this place if you’re into BBJ, MMA or Kickboxing!

I joined the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at Brave Martial Arts Institute earlier this year and there is no doubt in my mind that I made the best choice. Head instructor, Professor Rodrigo Alves, is by far the best instructor I've had the privilege to learn from. You can tell his instruction comes from his many years of experience both as a practitioner and a teacher.When teaching, he provides an abundance of options which allows us to be aware of the many possibilities and determine which ones fit best with our individual game. His knowledge of body mechanics is always a part of his instruction and he focuses on practical details; but more importantly, he explains why the details matter. This helps with understanding the techniques and memory retention.I’ve had the privilege of training with some of the other amazing instructors and seeing them teach their classes. They are all dedicated, experienced high-level martial artists.I highly recommend you check out Brave’s BJJ program (aka Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Team Ottawa) and/or their Muay Thai program.

Phenomenal place to train BJJ.First off, you're getting literally world class coaching. Professor Rodrigo Alves is a true master of the art, a legit third degree black belt who has done most of his training in Brazil. What is truly unique about him though, is that despite his level, he teaches all levels of student himself and rolls with everyone. It doesn't matter what level you are, he has time for you, encourages questions, and has answers to those questions that will help you to improve your game tremendously, whether you're a beginner or coming in with experience.Secondly, we have a great family of training partners. There is a tremendous variety of skill levels and body types to train with. Moreover, everyone is welcoming, rolls without ego, and is encouraging and supportive of one another, creating a fantastic team dynamic.Thirdly, the club is gorgeous. All new equipment, a huge mat space, and always very clean. It has all the feel of a real elite MMA gym. Perfect environment for training.Bottom line, if you're looking for a martial arts club in Ottawa, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Very clean facility, no hairs or dirt on the mats, everything new and modern, 1 hour training is great, they teaching different combat elements, every time adding new small steps to it( Muay Thai)it is making that not boring.Ms Shawna, is perfect teacher.
